This video will feature wines ideal for gifting, dinner parties, or just having around the house. I hope you’ll stay for the full video, but if you want to move ahead to the wine tasting, check the timeline below. A typical Costco carries just a couple of hundred different wines. Some are available year-round, but many are so-called treasure-hunt wines, available for only a limited time. This keeps the assortment fresh, and you’ll always find some unexpected. Part of the mix is under the Kirkland Signature label, sold exclusively through Costco. Prices range from $5 to several hundred dollars per bottle, with most between $15 and $35.

Aside from the standard price sign, there are a few others worth noting. Some will show an additional supplier-funded discount; pay attention to the promo expiration date. Others will have an asterisk in the upper right corner indicating the wine will not be replenished once it’s sold out. A seven at the end notes an item with a further discounted price. The assortment will vary by location. I intentionally did not choose any wine marked with an asterisk when this video was created. I picked up eight wines from four different countries.

Availability varies by location

  1. Glad to hear your take on the 23 KS Pauillac that I mentioned in a previous comment on another video. I always appreciate your unpretentious tastings and opinions and I always feel confident with them. I did get a case of the 24 KS Cote Du Rhone Villages as it had the asterisk at my local warehouse in Duluth MN. Great wine for the money. I'll keep my eye open for some of the others in the vid.

  2. We purchase at least three cases of the cotes de Rhone which has essentially become our house wine. Easy to drink and it goes with everything from pizza to steak.

One of our other favorites is the Kirkland Gigondas and we purchased a case of that today. At $14.99 per bottle it feels like a steal.

  3. Back in the early 80`s when we first started our food and wine hobby my Dad started us out on Wente "Blanc de Blanc".It was inexpensive and delicious.IDK for sure but I think it may have been Chenin Blanc grapes. We really enjoyed it back then. Will definitely look for the Wente Cab.Thanks for the reviews and the memories of Wente .

  4. The nomacork seems to have a good bounce to it, on the backhand.

I always ask myself what would go well with an In-N-Out 4 by 4, animal, with chopped yellow chili peppers. I don't want the wine to overpower the yellow peppers.

I like these Costco reviews. I will be buying a couple of them before picking up a burger.

  5. Really appreciate your videos! I learn a lot about how to taste wine from them-and appreciate them better! I used to shop the Novato Costco but am in Santa Cruz now—Ridge, Storrs, etc. wines. Wish I had access to Novato Costco wines. There was a great Hill winery (all estate grown) display – bought a bottle of each offering. Opened three of six so far-all exceptional

  6. Bob, great breakdown of your wines. There are values at every price point. Last week, I found 2020 Ducru Beaucaillou at my local Costco in South Louisiana for $99.97 per bottle! It had the asterisk and a 7 at the end. Current average price is $275 on wine searcher…. What a steal. Cheers 🍷

  7. really wish i lived close to a Costco…especially one that sells wine (in NJ have weird alcohol rules). was pulling for the Cotes du Rhone Villages, France – $7.49! That's awesome!

  8. Thanks, great cross section of style and price. I’d love for you to circle back on some of the wines after they have breathed a bit and give an update.

  9. My dad stationed near Bazas in Bordeaux region after WWII. He was dutied to provide wine for the officers' functions like during holidays or picnics, leave of duty celebrations, etc. He became familiar with some vintner houses that would explain their various barrels available. Mostly, he would source very high-end wines of Bordeaux but, because the barrel was not fully aged, it would come at a very bargain basement price. And with the honest guidance of the wine house concierges, he was always praised for the choice in wine he presented for a large party by the host. all very best regards. interesting channel

  10. One of the eight corks was actually a screw cap. Ha ha! But thanks for the video. On a previous video you said not to be intimidated by the label Bordeaux. That gave me the courage to buy left bank and right bank wines at Costco. A plethora of them at my local Costco. Looking forward to tyring the La Magia Brunelo. And thanks for an earlier recommendation on the Allison Crowe Pinot Noir. Its a very nice wine at a great price. Cheers!!

  11. Fantastic review and you have a voice for radio or tv! Well done. Heading to Costco soon to hopefully find a few of these!

  12. Hi Bob. Went to Costco today no Cotes du Rhine but. Did buy the ten year Tawny Porto .Question for you what temperature should I drink this at? Cheers

  13. About aeration: Are you talking about putting the wine into a glass and allowing it to sit for awhile; swirling it around in a decanter and letting it sit for some other while; it simply leaving the bottle uncorked for yet a different while?

  14. Love your videos! Problem is, in this town in Florida I live in, my Costco doesn't carry half the wines you usually talk about. 😪

  15. Thanks again for the great content. I’m especially appreciative of the ability, on Costco‘s website, to search for the availability of a product at my local warehouse. I don’t know if this is a new function, but it sure is a time saver for me. It would certainly help folks with multiple Costco‘s in their area to search for availability of the various wines you recommend. Unfortunately I only have one Costco in my sleepy little town. Thank you again Bob.

  16. So "La Caña Albariño", huh? Let's see if I can find it around. Côtes du Rhône… let me see if I can find it. Muriel, I think I could find but my wife won't be a fan of American oak. The rest, I'm having a hard time for sure!
    AND: kudos on the basketcork!
