If you’re looking for the BEST Italian food in New Jersey, look no further than the Belmont Tavern. We were invited to Belleville, NJ by our good friend, Tony Mangia to experience this old-school Italian restaurant that is legendary for its family style dishes, massive portions, and no-nonsense red sauce cooking.

Get Lost in the Sauce with us… From the famous Shrimp Beeps and Chicken Savoy to housemade cavatelli and endless classic Italian-American favorites, Belmont Tavern is the kind of place locals gate keep. No reservations, no fancy menus, just incredible food that’s been holding it down in the neighborhood for generations.

Whether you’re from North Jersey, NYC, or just chasing the best Italian American restaurants in the tri-state area, this spot should be at the top of your list.

  1. It looks like you guys had a great night and all that food looks fantastic. Hey, my cousins, you know I love you guys. Big love from midwest, Italian Americans we're all family 🇮🇹 🇺🇸 🍕.

  2. We had 5 great Italian restaurants in Jersey City at one time and today they are all gone. Not a single one left. It saddens me deeply. One of them named Tripoli made the best Ricotta cheesecake you ever tasted. Many restaurants have Ricotta cheesecake on menu but I guarantee you it was nothing like Tripolis.

  3. Every Sunday my mother would send me to the Italian deli to buy 50 cents worth of Ricotta. We would call it by an Italian name I can’t spell but never called it Pot Cheese.

  4. How everybody is food snobs tho? Lol good to see a good Italiano young group of peeps sticking together. 🇮🇹✌🏼🇺🇸

  5. I’ve been going there when Stretch and the sisters were there, stretch was quite the host. Loved all his customers. No dessert BYD. My order is clams Oreganata, cavatellinand pot cheese, chicken savoy. That’s what Stretch said was the order, never failed. You can be loud but be respectful.

  6. These guys they eat everything but the best dish they have in the house. Chicken Savoy. Unbelievable

  7. The Chicken Murphy is quite good. Pork Francaise is also fantastic but I don’t know if it’s on the menu. They’ll make it anyway 😂 To me, the Ravioli filled with long hot peppers is the best thing they serve.
