Bless you Omar for being so open with your faith in Christ. I moved from the US to Italy 13 years ago when I retired. The Lord led me here. I live in Liguria but at the eastern end of it on the other side of the water from the port of Genoa. Here is how you pronounce Genoa and Genova correctly. The emphasis is on the FIRST syllable "JEN" so, JEN-Oh-Vah is the Italian pronunciation, and JEN-Oh-Ah in English. The reason there were so many flowers on the graves in the cemetery was because the "Festa di Ognissanti" or All Saints' Day was on November 1st. Also Genova is famous for "inventing" fast food. They say that being a port, centuries ago the sailors from everywhere would disembark to eat and would want something hot and quick to take with them. So folded breads or foods wrapped in paper became the trend. God bless you both, from Liguria Italy.

To answer your question about wether they still do those kinds of sculptures. Not far from Genoa in Tuscany is the town of Carrara, which has probably the most famous marble quarry. It has been used for hundreds of years. And still is. It’s where Leonardo and Michelangelo etc got their marble. Btw pesto is pesto, in Italian or English. The Alla Genovese means it’s from Genoa . Whereas if you go to Bologna, don’t ask for Spaghetti Bolognaise, because they don’t do it. They have tagliatelle with ragu .
Genova is just the Italian spelling of the city. They don’t pronounce the v . Same with the city of Mantova, which to English speakers is Mantua
