Italian cuisine becomes world’s first to be awarded UNESCO status

Italy has a very tasty reason to celebrate: Its national cuisine has become the first entire gastronomic style to be recognized by UNESCO, the UN’s cultural body — a status that should help protect it from imitators. The decision to designate Italian food as an intangible cultural heritage was confirmed on Wednesday by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni ahead of an announcement expected from UNESCO. The status marks the successful end to a three-year campaign by Italy’s Agriculture Ministry to have the nation’s traditional way of growing, harvesting, preparing and serving food recognized. #CNN #News

    Italian food isn't bad but feels massively overrated for what it is. Something like Middle Eastern or Thai food seems more deserving of UNESCO status than that. (As it is, UNESCO & most cultural organizations vastly overrepresent Europe)

    I'm Italian, from the Marche region in central Italy, just one of the twenty regions in Italy. I have in my kitchen a cookbook about the cuisine of my region, just a cookbook among others, and it has 1500 recipes. 1500 recipes only in this particular book and just for my regional cuisine.

    Just to make it clear…again and again…Italian Americans, above those born and raised in US are not fuxxxing Italians! You wish but you are not . They don't bloody know anything about their country , imagine about Italy! Italian cuisine is an over the top culture, it's about fresh ingredients and thousands of recipes we just have in our country.

    Stop showing only pasta and pizza, Italy has hundreds of recipes of Fish, Meat, Rice, Vegetables, Soups, Nuts, Desserts and more, it never ends. the stupid pasta and pizza is only 3% of Italian food. I'm Italian and I don't eat pasta and pizza junk food.

    Americans have "Invented" so many "Italian" foods that don't exist in Italy, the last one I found is "Italian wedding soup"🤣🤣🤣, never heard about it in Italy, I'm Roman born.
    And the American copies/imitations of Italian food are everywhere in American supermarkets. low quality mass produced food with Italian words on the label.
