Six wines, one country, and we have to guess where they’re from. Spoiler: we were way off, and these wines were way better than expected.
Spain is maybe the largest wine-producing country in the world, but it often flies under the radar compared to France, Italy, and Germany. Today we’re tasting six Spanish wines completely blind to see if we can identify them—and more importantly, if they’re any good.
What we tasted:
Six wines ranging from sparkling to orange to red. The styles were all over the place, which made guessing the country incredibly difficult.
Our guesses:
Brendan: Italy
Noah: France
Henry: China (seriously)
The reality: Spain. All of them.
The Verdict:
These are probably the most compelling Spanish wines we’ve had on the show. That Cava? Game-changing. The Priorat wines? Spectacular. The budget reds? Incredible value.
Key Moments:
Henry thinking it was China imitating France
“Burger rings” and “wheat bix” aroma descriptors for Comando G
Discovering the best Cava we’ve ever tasted
Three dozens called on the first wine alone
The Takeaway:
Spanish wine deserves way more attention than it gets. From exceptional Cava to wild oxidative whites to juicy reds, this lineup showed us that Spain is producing world-class wines at every price point.

Another great one – what happened to Noah's tastings?
Tinto Fino is Tempranillo
La Maldicion is 9 euro in my shop here in Spain, I've had it a couple times I think it is OK at that price.
Cava has no similarities to prosecco, other than the fact it's sparkling. Cava makes some incredible sparkling wines.
I got to go to a tasting and try my first Corpinnat. Something I learned is it is a small group of vinyards who came together in 2017 and created higher standards than Cava. They wanted to have a designation for high quality Cava with stricter standards.
As a Spaniard :), just a heads-up: Recaredo is no longer Cava. Along with Gramona (another Spanish gem) and other top Penedès wineries, they left the Cava DO in 2019 to launch Corpinnat—a strict EU collective brand for premium sparkling wines made with 100% estate-grown organic grapes, hand-harvested native varieties like Xarel·lo, and minimum 18-month lees aging. They've taken quality to the next level, far surpassing most traditional Cavas; dig into the DO Cava rules and you'll see why they bailed. Loved your selection, though—Spain's moved way beyond heavy-oaked Tempranillos. Great work, guys, keep it up!
Recaredo is great, they are a part of the best sparkling wine producers in Catalunya that decided to label themselves as Corpinnat instead of Cava. Corpinnat is kinda like a self governed D.O. where the participating producers set stricter regulations for themselves (because they were not happy with the way Cava is always seen as a cheap product) -> manual harvest, longer minimum aging sur lattes and mandatory organic or biodynamic certification. In other words, they are trying to rebrand by ditching the name Cava for Corpinnat. Don't know if you can find it in Australia but Gramona "La Cuvée" and At Roca Brut are more affordable Corpinnat wines which are also very well made.
what happened with Noahs part?😅
These look cool. I’m so tired of people pitching rioja as great value, I don’t like American oak just leave me alone
Saw the title and my first thought: will the Cava actually be a Corpinnat? Hell yes!
Where were Noah's blind comments? Did someone fail the recording again?) Also Noah was happy and cheerful in Group Chat, while Brendan said he loved the wines but only bought 6 for cheap prices 😉
Also "wtf is Cava", new classic already, reminds me of Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back =)
Riviere is super solid, espescially for the price. The white is also fantastic
What a fun tasting idea, so much good juice coming out of Spain!
Not the best line up to show case Spain wines. Should be Cava, a type of Sherry, Galician/Bierzo white and for the reds with Rioja, Priorat and Canary Islands red/Monastrell/Bobal you can cover almost most of the bases. So much diversity and good projects to pick.
I think spanish wines are undervalued worldwide when in reality is second to France in quality references (technically is drawn with Italy but Spain has the region of Sherry with biologic aging that produces an incredible array of expressions)
Next country Portugal please!!
Currently in Priorat, just left Penedès, perfect timing!
Cava is 100 percent superior to Prosecco . Shocked it's not more readily available in Australia
Yep, obscure country trying to figure out their wines. 🤣
