Italian-American poet, Gerardo Smaldone, recounts in verse his visit to Zio Kite’s farm on West Broadway in Adams County, Colorado. Zi’ Kite is the master of the Italian game, “La Morra” played by throwing our fingers on a competition. Gaetano (Kite) Spero, immigrated to Denver, Colorado in 1912 from Potenza, Basilicata, Italia. He owned a truck farm on West Broadway, off the “Valley Highway” (I-25) and 58th St. He made wine, played bocce and la moda. He was my grandfather and Gerardo’s great uncle. He died in 1964.
