From breakfast herring to dessert sausage, I spent 24 hours eating my way through Lapland. As a southern Italian who loves warm weather and usually starts the day with an espresso and something sweet, this Arctic food adventure definitely took me out of my comfort zone. Join me as I try traditional Lappish dishes, explore Rovaniemi, and end the night in a wilderness camp, hoping to catch the Northern Lights.

About me
I’m a journalist and producer with over 9 years of experience covering traditional dishes, food culture, and culinary craftsmanship. Originally from Bari, Italy, and now in London, I’ve built my career exploring how food reflects the identity of people and places. You may know me from Business Insider’s Regional Eats, So Expensive, and Food Tours. Now, on my YouTube channel, I tell stories behind iconic foods, meet local artisans, and explore the link between land, culture, and cuisine.

  1. This video is a bit of a new production style for me, so please be kind! My next video will be back to my usual documentary format, but I had so much fun trying a more vlog-style approach while eating my way through Lapland. Hope you enjoy it!
Which Lappish dish are you most curious to try?🇫🇮🌲

  2. gets the food and stay for free in return for giving good reviews and claiming everything is good when we could see that she clearly didnt like some of the food ..it was obvious …. so sick and tired of these Fake AF food vloggers .-( if something doesnt taste good just Effing Say SO ..jeeez

  3. No, we don't eat fish fo breakfast. 😅 Maybe at a hotel and even then it's never herring, more like gravlax or smoked salmon.

  4. Traveling to finland in october and november and having nice weather is like 1/1000 chance i hope you enjoyed your stay 😂

  5. Straightforward for me, but HERRING

I explore different food traditions as much as I can, and there's few things apart from chilli I'll refuse

But rollmops, pickled fish, you'd have to put a gun to my head to eat it

  6. My cat's breath smells like herring. But all joking aside, I've eaten herring plenty for breakfast… Smoked kippers have found their way to Australia from the UK.

  7. Claudia, you have a beautiful long hair. I was all the time afraid, that you might eat also your hair accidentally🙂

  8. You should taste cinnamon bun (korvapuusti). That's my favorite bun. It raises the coffee moment to another level.

  9. bit you sort of didn't eat like local you ate at tourist sites that serve sort of like finnish local foods but nice that you liked their choices and food was good 😀

  10. The first fish you had was actually baltic herring, called "silakka" from The Baltic Sea and the other two were atlantic herring, called "silli".

  11. Perskele. Seuraavassa videossa neiti voisi viettää suomalaisen känni illan. Sillee myö lievitetää stressiä, we call it kalsarikännit.

  12. Next time you are around you definitely taste reindeer carpaccio, vendace and white fish roe with buckwheat crepe, cured fishes. Try top rye breads and archipelago breads. Deer with porcini etc.. Nice videos you have I really need to look into these Italian food episodes. I am really big fan of Italian cuisine and local / regional stuff. Been many times in Bologna. Grazie!

  13. Im from lapland and been following you since you were on food insider! I wish I could have showed you around in lapland as Rovaniemi is super touristy these days. I dont think any finn would have herring for breakfast. tradinionally its oats and berries. for lunch or dinner local whitefish is way more common, and there are different types of whitefish. Salmon is more like lapland but its been overfished and not as much local river salmon around. the lapland cheese you had translates to "bread cheese" and usually had with coffee, when you drop pieces of it to hot coffee so it melts a bit.

  14. True Sauna is inclusive of cold plunge, not plus😂. You should try that during winter, scraping the ice away from the water surface.
Anyway, if you have become curious in herring, try either Sweden or Norway’s ‘Sildebord’ (herring table/spread) that is essentially all versions of herring for a lunch table.
