The US market is going crazy about this one Indian product, which has become the newest health fad… and people believe it can help them lose weight…
India is the largest producer in the world of Isabgol or Psyllium Husk…
With 80% of the global produce coming from India… and our country currently exports almost USD 400 Mn worth of Isabgol to the world in a year.
90% of the Isabgol processing currently happens in Gujarat… and the reason it’s in high demand in the US is because fiber supplements are the new form of gut health…
People believe that because having Isabgol will become jelly like and expand in their belly, it keeps them satiated for long, and they end up eating lesser… almost like it is a natural GLP-1 drug (it isn’t, but it’s the perception)
Now of course, I’m no doctor or medical expert to validate any of that, but the marketing narrative has helped boost demand.
The US takes 70% of the exports, followed by Germany, Italy and the UK
While powders and tablets are the popular form factor, the new way of consumption is in the form of flavoured drink pre-mixes… and brands are able to charge a premium by adding flavours as well as other functional additives like pre-biotics.
A California-based digital health startup raised $45 million in 2023 to scale an algorithm-driven fiber subscription service, now serving over 150,000 monthly users across North America and Europe… and the trend is growing stronger.
I should pull out that green coloured telephone brand carton from my pantry today and try it out.

This is hilarious, but in line with the desperation and short cuts people are willing to take to “loose weight”-
You are supposed to have it in curd. With sugars it maybe detrimental to gut health.
P&G is buying this from India for years
You give so many ideas why not do something yourself??
Make a patent. Quickly before they declare its theirs.
Eat lesser or eat less? Why speak in English when you don't know the basic difference between these two words!
I collected 59 Soul Husks in Skyrim.
I live in US, and people are NOT going crazy over Psyllium Husk. Its just a part of 100s of weight loss supplements and mostly it is sold as a laxative for decades under the brand name Metamucil.
Bhai yeh isabgol ko xthanthum ke naam se sell karte hai as a binding agent for glutenfree . So just imagine how many gluten free people in Germany are there and consuming it.
