A fairly new restaurant opened in the Nu’uanu Shopping Center called Chao. It is a fusion Vietnamese restaurant that offers wonderful Vietnamese style appetizers and main entrees. Go early for their happy hour for cheaper prices on appetizers. They are also open for lunch and dinner, and also offer a full bar.

That soft shell crab pasta looked amazing — super crispy and huge portions! Didn’t expect the lemongrass flavor to be that strong though. Still looks worth trying just for those crabs 🎉

Hi Misty, This wings looks fabulous!! Was it tasting fish saucy flavor? Creative frying up the batter with jalapeno and squid–right up my alley. How do you eat the soft shell crab when the shell is battered up and fried? Is the shell that soft so there aren't sharp edges going down the hatch? 😋

I’ve eaten there 3 times and it’s so good! My favorites are the chicken wings, beef carpaccio is amazing, spring rolls, and the crab pasta. The drinks with the sea salt foam are so good!

Not your typical pho and banh mi restaurant. The menu looked amazing. Maybe garlic noodles would have been better with the crab. Aiden has a discerning palate.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful place. We just had a meal there and LOVED it! Shindy (bartender) was fabulous, but the food was ridiculously great and we enjoyed the ambiance! You are one of the very few YouTubers that we trust with reviews. I am sure you know that some just post anything, but it appears that you actually give an honest opinion/review. I got to try the bahn mi (lemongrass chicken) and the fillings were quite generous! But I heard the roast pork bahn mi is the one to get. Chicken wings bomb too. The pho is next on my list!
That looks really good! Could the creaminess in the pasta be an egg yolk base similar to carbonara? I'm assuming based on your description and the color. Another great review!
On another note…that shopping center looks lively still. There was a barber shop somewhere around there back in the 80s. It was my go-to shop when I was boarding at Kamehameha. We would walk there on the weekend using the Puna gate. Good memories! Thank you again for sharing another great experience ❤
