When it comes to the oldest Italian restaurant in America there are a few contenders. Another contender for first Italian restaurant in America is a spot in Philadelphia, but many people consider Fior d’Italia in San Francisco to be the oldest. And Fior d’Italia the oldest Italian restaurant in the USA, is still very well-reviewed today and has been around since 1886. It’s been around for almost 140 years!

Just because it’s historical though does not mean it’s the best. But I am excited to always try historical restaurants in America and the oldest restaurants in America. Because of how much Italian American food has influenced American food, it’ll be really interesting to see what the oldest Italian restaurant in the country potentially is like, and to see if it still resembles Italian American food today, or if it resembles more Italian food today. Or Italian food from a bygone era, so neither authentic food in Italy, or authentic Italian American food today!

  1. I dont know if he is enjoying it or about to barf it out of sheer disgust. This is not a racist comment. I have seen Asians enjoying food before.

  2. I absolutely love that you're still passionate about what you do. I could really tell that you loved that one and weren't willing to compromise on the gnocchi!! Kudos to you brother on the honest reviews!!!!

  3. They're soft because they're most likely bought gnocchi , not homemade , you're right , they do suck and remember that Italian restaurants in the US are not genuine Italian.

  4. I have a really hard time believing that on the West coast a first Italian restaurant when the waves were coming into NY and NJ

  5. No question that gnocchi was hanging under the heat lamp for a while. The sauce was coagulated and the dumplings were over cooked from the residual heat from sitting under the lamp.

  6. You SHOULD have returned the gnocchi the moment it wasn’t acceptable. Returning bad food is part of your job as a food reviewer.

  7. UA, traditional well made Gnocchi should be soft as a pillow. If it is made with too much flour it can make them dense, “chewy” and heavy.

Minestrone is a soup made with seasonal vegetables and what is available. So it and its ingredients can vary from region to region and depending on the time of year. Peas are not a must.

  8. "in Italy you waited an hour…at least 30 minutes" which was it douchebag, an hour or 30 minutes?
