The COVID-19 pandemic has spread across the world in a rapid and destructive way. Images of worn-out doctors, overrun hospitals and empty cities have become commonplace.

But Italy with the most deaths at over 7,500 has become the center of the pandemic. Italians have an aging population and initially weren’t appearing to take the novel coronavirus seriously. Now, the whole country is on lockdown and serves as a warning to others around the world.

With cases in the U.S. rapidly increasing, it’s predicted to be just days behind Italy. What can the U.S. learn from Italy’s handling of the crisis? Is it already too late? And how are the two countries set up differently to deal with an unprecedented health crisis?

  1. Hi everyone, I hope you're all staying as safe and as healthy as possible! I'm currently sheltering at home like so many folks around the world right now. How have your lives been affected by the coronavirus pandemic? Let me know in the comments below where you are and what life is currently like there. Take care and see you soon.

  2. Why don’t we hear God Loves USA or God bless the USA?

The Italians form of greeting is also a huge reason why it spread so fast

  3. Everyone down played the threat because China and WHO lied to the world. Countries are doing the best they can with what they know. Put the blame on China and WHO because they are the ones who are responsible for all this bs.

  4. Miss D a hope u good mi de ya a give thanks we now have 63 infected on 4 deaths an 9 recover mi know the work haffi gwaan be careful now 🙏🏾🙏🏾💪🏽🇯🇲irie

  5. Is the US handling the China virus better than Italy? See for yourself and do not listen to this garbage reporter who serves as a lap dance dog for the Qatari monarchs. And no, hospitals are not turning away patients. https://youtu.be/KEQ3Bvuvef4

  6. America never learns anything because people in America tend to blame other people instead of acknowledging their mistakes and owning up to it.

  7. The two countries that have shown massive incompetents on this virus, the US and UK, both countries had lots of warnings from Italy, the virus seemed to have had a delayed impact on both countries and yet both have done quite poor on this that it wouldn't surprise me if the US is the worse hit country in the world with the UK being the worse hit in Europe.

  8. US
    Universal healthcare: nope
Social safety net: yes, in theory; it's complicated
Social solidarity: here and there; not as a nation

  9. Countries I think have handled the pandemic well:

    – Ireland
    – Germany
    – Iceland
    – Norway
    – Sweden
    – Taiwan
    – South Korea

Countries I think have not handled the pandemic well:

    – Italy
    – Spain
    – United Kingdom
    – United States
    – Brazil
    – Russia
    – Belarus
    – Iran
