Ever wondered what it takes to sell wine on the other side of the world? Or what happens when you freeze apples on a tree to make wine? We’re unpacking both in this episode. We’ve just gotten back from three separate international trips—Quebec, New Zealand, and Germany—and we’re sharing what we learned, what went wrong, and what we drank along the way.
In this episode:
✓ Blind tasting Quebec ice cider (yes, it’s made from frozen apples)
✓ How wine actually gets sold in international markets
✓ Why Montreal might be the perfect wine city
✓ Selling Fiano to New Zealanders (and almost missing the flight)
✓ The insanely steep vineyards of Germany’s Mosel region
✓ What it’s really like working with government-owned bottle shops
✓ Travel horror stories, from broken-down cars to last-minute airport sprints
Whether you’re curious about ice cider, international wine sales, or just want to hear some chaotic travel stories, we’ve got you covered.
Drop a comment if you’ve tried ice cider or if you’ve got your own wine travel stories! And if you’re in Quebec—go grab some Unico Zelo River Sand from your local SAQ.

Quebec let's goooo!! Didn't expect to be reminded about Montreal's glorious goodies and well done Noah for stating that Montreal bagels are superior to New York's. Thanks for putting my native province on the map and for reminding me I can get your wines when I visit the SAQ this Christmas. Hot tip – don't pronounce the Province name like the Canadian Anglos do. It's not 'Kway-Bec' but 'Kay-bec'.
Love the episode, less of the face cameras that wide view camera looks and feels heaps better as a viewer .
Thanks lads, great convo. Really enjoyed the bit on Germany.
Congrats Noah on the DipWSET.
Congrats Noah on the DipWSET!! well done! I'm just starting mine. yikes!
I went to a rather nice restaurant in Sapporo Japan and I was so surprised to see jade and jasper available on the tiny wine list which was made up of really only European wines, Especially since it was priced higher as some wines which back home in Australia are generally twice to 3 times the price of unico wines. Ended up going with a Monastero suore Coenobium Bianco 2022
Sooo happy to finally see Quebec’s ice cider on the map. It’s incredibly underrated as a dessert wine while still holding it’s own by itself. Plenty more to discover
