Ever heard wine people throw around “Old World” and “New World” and wondered what they’re actually talking about? We’re breaking down these industry terms once and for all.
In this video, we explain:
✓ What Old World and New World wine actually means (hint: it’s simpler than you think)
✓ The key differences in taste, style, and winemaking approach
✓ Why Old World wines tend to be higher in acidity and lower in alcohol
✓ Whether Old World wines are actually “better” than New World wines
✓ Which wines offer better value for your money
✓ How to spot the difference in a blind tasting
The TL;DR: Old World = Europe (France, Italy, Spain, etc.) with centuries of tradition. New World = everywhere else (Australia, USA, Argentina, etc.) with more freedom to innovate. Both make incredible wine—it’s all about what YOU like.

Gotta admit, im a francofile. Though South Africa often does almost what the french are doing for much less.
Noah, you have a natural gift for teaching. Think hard before going into it though, it's not for everyone.
I always think that New World wines have a technical excellence to them. The quality of wine making (outside of the bulk producers) has been shaped in Australia by people from medical and scientific backgrounds and that is clearly reflected in the wines overall…very clean. In the Old World they tend to be more terroir driven, cultivated from old vineyards with centuries of tradition. As a consequence they tend to have more earthy, savoury qualities. I'm generalising of course and as you said, one is not better than the other. The really exceptional wines have both regardless of origin. I can't always tell on the nose but as soon as I drink a wine it is normally obvious. Good explanation Noah!
