Fettuccine Alfredo is the most famous Italian American pasta dish. It’s also the most Americanized and the least authentic by far! Most people who are familiar with authentic Italian pasta know that fettuccine alfredo is perhaps one of the fakest pastas there is, with the mark of an obvious tourist being asking for fettuccine alfredo in an Italian restaurant in Italy. However, fettuccine alfredo indeed does have origins in Italy, in Rome specifically! The original fettuccine alfredo restaurant is Alfredo alla Scrofa Restaurant in Rome, which has been selling the first ever fettuccine Alfredo for more than 100 years!

This restaurant absolutely is historical, but is it a tourist trap? Or is it preserving what made the dish so incredible back then? The original fettuccine alfredo recipe after all was not the American fettuccine alfredo recipe. The original recipe was just butter, cheese, and fettuccine. Super simple, not much else. Is it worth the hype or is a tourist trap? We’ll find out together!

  1. I want to clarify something as some people asked if the Karen was staff. She was an American tourist eating nearby. And as I mentioned in the video, I asked her explicitly right before filming if it would be okay if I filmed a YouTube review. I always do this when seated near other people. She said yes, then for some reason changed her mind. I think she thought I'd be filming a voiceover, but if so why do I need her permission to silently film my own food?

  2. Food seems rank, the "meat balls" are trying too much. The pasta looks like puke, its shameful to bring that garbage out to a table.

  3. I don't know. She didn't seem respectful to me either, it seemed like she was just trying to gaslight you. She kept talking in circles! Kudos to you for holding your cool.

  4. I get it. You were reviewing a commonly American favorite and comparing that to the original invention of it. It is so odd how many Americans don't understand that and just want to criticize that. Great review! You succeeded at least to this longtime fan.

  5. If I was in a restaurant, I definitely would not want to be seated next to you. Talk, talk, talk and loud. Other customers have complained about you before.

  6. HAHA UA is benefiting from these Karens, more of them please! It was funny how UA just has to deal with all this womansplaining

  7. Giolitti, the best gelato in Rome. There’s a “chain” called Alice, that makes pizza Al taglio, that is phenomenal. I am born and raised in Rome, and hit that spot at least once a day, they have a porcini pizza that is insane! And a broccolini and sausage that is mind altering. If you get a chance….

  8. UA, be careful saying things like "I am pretty big too." Gotta keep your ego in check cuz it is not a good look. If not, you'll be Trump in the end.

  9. UA, jut tell her to mind her business. All that back and forth you would’ve finished your vid way earlier. You’re too nice, don’t engage, say your point and get on with what you’re doing.

  10. The first person ever not liking the original fettuccine Alfredo. How is that possible? It’s just a very good parmigiano cheese and butter pasta recipe. Yes, the fettuccine are super thin and “all’uovo”, they are not supposed to be al dente! You are not eating spaghetti or bucatini or any other kind of dry pasta.
I think you are exaggerating with all those faces that you do everytime you eat a little of that plate. Please, stop it.

Sorry but that was ridiculous. You usually eat pasta with cream and chicken…………. There is no need to add anything else to understand!

  11. I have Italian American friends that were just there and had the same reaction to food not as good as they thought it would be

  12. You should watch the TV series "FINDING ITALY" with Stanley Tucci. He eats at some of the best places throughout Italy. Each episode features eateries in specific cities and provinces. When I was in Italy last year, I ate at the places he featured in Rome, Florence and Venice. Incredible eats!!!

  13. 22:14 Okay, clearly the "Karen" was a manager at the restaurant, not just someone who happened to be passing by… May I ask why we only see the second interaction with the lady and not the first, in which, you say, she authorized you to do everything you said?

    Just to be transparent.

  14. Curious how other talking creators like Mark Wiens (who are also much less lowkey than UA) don’t seem to get these kinds of Karen interactions like HOW

  15. I've been to Italy a few times around all the different regions and I've never had this kind of food experience. I think you're going to all the wrong places. LOL

  16. Holy cow what a miserable wrench. She says she got some big friends and she knows how it works. Trying skool UA whoa impossible
