Venice is a city that most people dream of, but what is it really like to spend 15 days here as slow travelers?

We wrapped up our 79 days in Italy with two weeks based on the island of Murano. Instead of rushing through the canals and landmarks, we slowed down to explore Venice at a retirement traveler’s pace. That meant mornings at the Coop for groceries, afternoons wandering neighborhoods and hidden alleys, day trips to Burano and Lido, and evenings split between cooking at home and trying local restaurants.

In this video, we’ll share what it’s like to live in Venice for two weeks, including:
β€’ Getting around with the Vaporetto and day trips to the islands
β€’ What it’s like to stay in an apartment on Murano
β€’ Our balance of eating out and cooking at home
β€’ The Biennale, churches, and endless Venetian wandering
β€’ Shopping stories, like replacing my Tiffany’s ring and finding handmade soaps in Burano
β€’ The grand total of what two weeks in Venice cost us, and our honest thoughts on whether it was worth it

  1. Thanks for the information on your stay. We have had short stays in Venice several times over the past 20 years. We’ve had quite a few mediocre meals in the touristy sections of town so staying in Murano and having a kitchen would be what we would do next time too. Thank you for sharing your experience.
