The documentary retraces the Italian campaign led by the Allies after their victory in North Africa. While the Americans favored a direct attack on France, the British opted for a more cautious strategy targeting Italy. The film highlights the first landings, the fierce battles against German forces, and the logistical and human difficulties faced by the troops.

Ironically nicknamed the “D-Day Dodgers,” the soldiers who fought in Italy endured extremely harsh battles, often downplayed or forgotten in official accounts of the Second World War. The documentary emphasizes that, despite sometimes flawed planning, their sacrifice was crucial to the downfall of fascism in Europe.

  1. Operation Husky was the largest single amphibious assault by the Allies during World War II, with over 180,000 soldiers landing in Sicily on July 10, 1943, while 156,000 troops landed in Normandy on D-Day, June 6, 1944

  2. It is already strange to see these true documentaries, real, without AI or meaningless images or always repeating the same thing.

  3. My grandfather was an officer in the Polish Army and led Allied troops at Montecassino. Then Churchill gave Poland to Stalin. They never went back to Poland.

  4. 32:38 what a missed opportunity to allow the Germans to escape to the mainland & make the allied push up the Italian boot a nightmare. For six days they allowed the Germans to cross those tiny straits & with all the allied supremacy on sea & in the air, no effective resources could be called on to contain them. The allied newsreel made no mention of that for obvious reasons. So yeah, even that club footed little spinster Goebbels kinda did have something to gloat about…can't blame him lol, their entire world is in flames & closing in on them, any piece of good news would be well received.
