I bought the exact same wines in both bottles and boxes to answer a simple question: does packaging actually matter? See, boxed wine gets four bottles’ worth for the price of three, but there’s a catch — the plastic bag inside might be ruining your wine through something called “Oxygen Transmission Rate” and “Flavor Scalping” (yes, that’s a real thing where plastic literally steals your wine’s flavor). Today I’m blind-tasting four different wines, each poured from both bottle and box versions, to find out if I can even tell the difference. We’re building up to the ultimate showdown: a $100 Tablas Creek GSM blend that comes in both formats — if packaging matters at all, this expensive wine will expose the truth.
I’m Dustin, and I’ve tasted thousands of wines—my mission is to make wine accessible and fun for everyone by cutting through the snobbery and complication with honest, helpful reviews for non-wine people.

What was the lot number on the Pinot?
Also, let’s see a story on the legal fight between stags leap wine cellars and stags leap vineyard
Haha! I thought the bottle of Tablas Creek was $100-its the box! Ok so the bottle online is $28, that’s a doable price. And no, I’m not buying the box for the buy3 get 1free😂
Dude, I literally just learned that plastic isn't completely airtight… Like… what? How did I not know about this my entire adult life? As always, the usefulness of your videos continues to be rivaled only by their production quality and you as the host, ofc. I'm always happy to get notified about a new video you uploaded! Cheers, have a great weekend!
Any chance you could wine taste using wines you've purchased from Grocery Outlet? I've found some treasures at GO. Not sure if you have that grocery chain in your area. Thanks again for another great video.
Try Costco Kirkland cab sauv. $12-15.
Box wine has exp date? I will look closer at box next time. Still 3 liters!!!!
I haven't had the box version but a while back I did a thorough bottom shelf exploration and found Woodbridge Cab to be the most god awful juice ever..
If you are drinking Woodbridge……YOU HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE OF WINE!!! I know it isn’t the point of this piece….but glass is the only way to buy wine!
Lets gooo another amazing video and my favorite wine YouTuber.
I'm absolutely interested in the "Dustin tells us wine history stories" idea. Perhaps with a nice glass or two of relevant wines? So if you're talking Mondavi, perhaps a Mondavi Napa, a Charles Krug, and a Continuum? Or do the story of the Judgement of Paris and taste a Montelena chard, a Grgich chard (Mike Grgich was the winemaker at Montelena for the 1973 chard), and an Stag's Leap SLV?
That 1st boxed wine🫣🫣
Such a great video concept!! Nothing I have ever seen! Enjoyed every minute. ❤👏👏👏
This is an interesting experiment! Never thought to try this side by side!
my grandad has arthritis and can't open a bottle of wine but enjoy boxed wine
Great video! I would love to see a review of various Mondavi products paired with a brief history of Robert Mondavi and/or the company.
As far as that last wine is concerned, would your conclusion on the boxed wine also mean that it would go bad much faster. Would this mean that checking botteling date would be super important?
Smart test.
