I thought I knew pretty much about wine. I visited Piper Heidsick in 1997. I had never heard of Rare until this video. A Google search for Piper Heidsick Rare shows no availability other than on line purchase here in New England. Rare is indeed rare.
I have had the pleasure of both visiting Piper-Heidsieck in 2016, where we had the 2002 vintage, which I have tried multiple times afterwards. I tasted both the 2006 vintage and 2008 within half year, about 3 years ago, and the 2008 was part of my New Year´s celebration last year.
Regis Camus names each vintage of Rare, 2006 is called Sunny, 2002 Iconic and 2008 Infinite.
Looking at my tasting notes, 2006 definetely stood out as the warmer of the 3, a bit more decadent, than the crispiness of the 2 other vintages.
You caught my curiosity with this champagne. Never had the occasion to taste it, but I keep an eye when it’ll be available around me. Don’t think I can afford 300$ canadian dollars, but I can never say never to try this wine, one day! 😊
And the bottle is SO magnificent! 🤩
I had the chance to taste the 2013 vintage a month ago. Great stuff, and it definitely didn't feel like 9 grams per liter of residual sugar.
Literally gave a bottle of this to my Mum for her birthday today (Well the 2012 anyway). I hope she enjoys it.
I had Rare late last year on Air France – I think it was 2013 but I could be mistaken. I wasn’t a fan. The quality was clearly high. However, stylistically it was the heaviest and most ponderous champagne I’ve ever had and that made me sad. Perhaps it was a reflection of the vintage that I tasted, but it was not for me
Thanks Agnes <3
Your enthusiasm is always welcome. Thank you. I will be getting a bottle later this year because of this video.
I have to say piper vintage isn't too far behind rare, although piper nv is terrible
I haven’t had the pleasure of tasting many of Champagne’s “Luxury” Cuvées—just a few years of Dom, Krug (NV and a few vintages), Cristal, Winston Churchill, Taittnger Comtes, and a few others, and Rare has definitely been my favorite! 1998 was particularly amazing!
Some times the accelerated video makes me think i am in front of an IA created Somm.
