  1. Thank you so much for reminding me about relax lifestyle I live in NY and everything is fast paced and it has to be done yesterday ouch😊❤

  2. I neve can agree with working through lunch and eating at your desks. This is the most depressing thing you can do to yourself. Go outside, give your brain some breathing space and eat in a relaxed state.

  3. Im half Italian and love the Italian lifestyle. Here in America most people are lazy, cook go shopping for food, or cook delicious food. Not to mention they buy things that are not in season on a regular basis or they eat at a fast food restaurant every day. That is why Americans are so heavy. It’s disgusting and sad that people have come to this point. Thank you for a fabulous video. I really enjoyed it.♥️

  4. I suspect that you were “compelled” to take a lunch break because Everything (but restaurants) shuts down for a long lunch break. Yes?

  5. I think that is why I love Italy so much—- it’s the people watching. Everyone gets out and engages in society and the world ❤

  6. I am calabrese..born in provincia reggio calabria..but my parents brought me here in uk when i was very young, my parents where calabrese too..but i still class myself as calabrese even though ive grown here in uk..im 100% calabrese..and im happy to be!!
I love my country italy..we go every year to italy, not just to calabria, we go to different parts of italy..which i love..i hate coming back to uk.
Im hoping to retire one day in my country..life is so much better in italy than uk..they dont rush like uk.
Life in uk your life is always rushing around..i love the life in italy best..thats my opinion..thankyou for reading my review..grazie..a tutti..buona giornata a tutti..❤🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹❤️

  7. Agree whole heartedly on the long home-made lunch!

During covid I was quite burnt out and made it a practice to block my calendar to make wholesome slow meals and actually eat them in our backyard undistracted. It totally changed my digestion and helped my nervous system reset.

I'm blessed to live in one of America's most walkable cities and do all my errands on foot euro style – and that simple act of walking with a little coffee to pick up flowers, produce, library books, drop off returns gives me a huge boost of social contact that I couldn't have in most parts of the states.

Loneliness is shown to alter parts of the brain which can start to read neutral expressions as hostile and cause people to further withdraw from others. I literally view walkability as an investment in my health since studies also show lonely ppl w/ "perfect" habits do as well in longevity as life long smokers! That's how protective community and connection is.

  8. FYI, it's somewhat easy to order a seasonal produce calendar for our part of the world. So while we have a more difficult time shopping daily, we may be able to stick with that seasonal calendar and buy organic, for the week. In doing these practices, we may just come close to mimicking that Mediterranean way of slow yet intentional way of nourishing our bodies.

  9. Hi , 1st time watching Alyssa, do you mind me asking , where did you live in Italy?
I have visited Italy many times , especially the south , I"m from Northern Ireland

  10. This isn't exclusive to Italy. It's the Mediterranean way of life. And, sorry for my bias, but life in the Mediterranean can't be beat, in spite of the complex social and political problems Mediterranean countries suffer from…

  11. Love all these little points..
I will say that you have overly generalized when you say:
“In Canada it can be hard to eat seasonally all year round”
I am in Ontario and only 10 minutes walk to a local farmers market.. many communities have them, yes maybe you drive or take a bus for 15 minutes , but it’s not hard at all and the veggies are beautiful, garlic ramps/fiddleheads/asparagus/new potatoes (to name a few)in Spring then summer/fall etc
..and not even speaking of the large cities Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal with amazing local markets.. I am not sure where you live but it’s definitely not representative of the whole of Canada.
I was just in Martina Franca Puglia for 2 weeks, I could not walk to a local market we had to drive, it wasn’t that much closer to a vegetable market than the many communities in Canada I personally have lived and been in both West coast and East Coast.
Personally having grown up experiencing these beautiful traditions visiting family in Europe I try to incorporate them into my daily life in Canada as an adult, I definitely do love all the points you made as a way of life .

  12. I was in Italy fr 15 days and wherever I went, I saw well dressed people. Tourists from other European countries were well-dressed. Stark contrast to American tourists who were in shorts and T shirts withput collar. Fortunatelky, it was NOvember and very few American tourists. I first thought Italy was very rich country. But then, slowly, I understood that it is a cultural thing. It allowed me to wear scarf and a nice jacket wherever I went without looking odd. I enjoyed dressing up, using nice perfume, and feeling good.

  13. Love everything about this video even though I am a man and don’t know if I was part of the target 🎯 audience and you are absolutely gorgeous in a timeless way by the way.

    Grazie ancora!

  15. Alyssa, Would you please consider putting words such as "passegiata" on screen as you introduce them? I'm sure I'm not the only one who would enjoy learning/confirming their spelling. Grazie!

  16. I cannot do the slow lunch due to work constraints (I'm a teacher; I get 30 minutes to eat and spend 10 of them helping children through the cafeteria line) but I do dress up and wear makeup and perfume even if I'm not leaving the house, and I take long, leisurely walks in the afternoon. I also spend a good time of my weekend going to Farmers' Markets and cooking with as many fresh ingredients as I can to meal prep for the week. That way I have better meals and less temptation to order take out. One thing I need to get better at: try to be more sociable outside of my school building. I would like to create a habit of sitting at a cafe or park to do my research and writing. I spend a lot of time indoors, with not a soul around!

  17. We were in Amalfi last week. The fruit vendor had peaches but they were unripe and he wouldn't sell them to us. He wanted us to take watermelon instead.

  18. My dad was in the military when he met my mom in Italy. As a family we lived in Germany and Paris I was out of High school when my family moved to the USA. What a culture shock! In 1969 we were stunned by the awful food!!!!! God bless cooking shows! Americans are finally getting a clue about food. Socially I don't think y'all will ever compare…oh yeah dad was Croaion. White blonde hair pale corn flower blue eyes. 6 kids, 3 short and dark. 3 tall and blonde with mesmerizing blue eyes 🧑‍🦳

  19. New follower here. I loved this video. My parents are from Mola di Bari and I have such fond memories of going there to visit my grandparents. Walking in the piazza every night, the delicious food, the smell of the ocean…I love Italy! 🇮🇹 ♥️

  20. These are not Italian habits. These are European habits. We all live like that. Exept for the coffee part.

  21. Great video, Alyssa. I love spending time in Italy for the same reasons that you mentioned. Living in the American west, where everything is so spread out and drivers race at high speeds on local roads, it takes away the pleasure of walking outside of a designated nature zone. Oh, and those flavors of fresh produce in the Mediterranean sun and soil. Buonissimo!

  22. We need more videos about how to translate this passagiata into rural communities or how you do it in Canada with the inconvenience of being 2 hours away from these farmers markets. I used to live in Edmonds Washington USA. People would dress fairly nice and walk their dogs while admiring the sunset at the marina. It was so enchanting to see the sunset over the cascade mountains.

Unfortunately I’m in a beach town now in NC with a lot of rednecks. No passagiata. Sad.

Seattle always had magnusson park, green lake park, golden gardens, discovery park. Always lovely to walk.

  23. Just found your channel. Totally agree with everything you say. I often go for a month and just stay in my favorite town there. There’s a sense of calm, contentless, of being healthy and connected. It is hard to bring a lot of these things home to the US with today’s culture. I just have to go more often than every 18-24 months!

  24. Grazie mille, Alyssa! How great it would be for more people to adopt these habits, especially in these trying times. My two favorite countries: Italy and Canada.
