Thank you for all the work, experience and expertise you put into all your video reviews 🍷
Nice video John. Its always nice to wake up on a Sunday and see that you posted a new video. I know we can add dozens of wines to you list, so I just mention 2 wines that I found to be great for the money. Faustino I Gran Reserva is such a fav of mine that I have 10 cases of the fantastic 2010 vintage. Those wines are being held for the wedding of my daughter or son and that could be a few more years into the future. The other wine that for me its a steal and quite possibly the best value right now is the CS cabernet sauvignon from Washington State. This wine is a perfect bbq or burger wine and it brings a lot of bang for the buck. Have a great Sunday amigo!
I‘ll say nice video before watching! $25 is probably around 15-20€ here in Europe and therefore at the low end of my preferred price window.
Edit after watching:
I wasn’t convinced by the 2015 Cubillo. Hearing that it is lighter and fresher in 2016 i will give it another try.
How come I haven’t tasted many of these wines?😅 While I’m familiar with Il Poggione, Lopez de Heredia, Beringer, Roederer, and El Enemigo, I haven’t come across the bottles of the rest of the producers mentioned. Thank you for the introduction and recommendations! Always value your tips and advice especially when they involve wines with excellent QPR—and wines that don’t break the bank! And if you’re buying them year in year out, then I’m 100% sure they are truly excellent buys. Immensely appreciate your expert insights and authoritative assessments on these wines. An extremely helpful and useful video! Thank you for doing all the research, tastings, and analysis for us. Cheers, John!
I completely agree on the Beringer Knights Valley it’s always a solid choice in that price range and the 2021 is really excellent. Just picked up a few more bottles! I’m a big fan of its big brother, Beringer Knights Valley Reserve too. Love the Stolpman recommendation too.
John, can you define "a healthy decant".
Very cool you mentioned Calera! I am a young wine fan from Los Angeles and my grandmother is from Hollister, the town Calera is by, so I knew of their wines from a very young age when we would visit. I have a lot of their single vineyard wines in my humble cellar, in fact probably the most of any producer. You are very correct, I believe their central coast Pinot and Chardonnay offer great value you can find readily. I also enjoy their non-Mt Harlan bottling from the Santa Cruz mountains or Santa Barbara. Their wines also age very well. I had a Calera Ryan vineyard from 1997 and it was still quite enjoyable! Love your videos dude, I’ve learned a lot from them!
I will not be buying the one that Neo Marxist Michelle Obama was involved in…thank you very much for the heads up
I definitely second the Donnhoff Tonschiefer and the Beringer Knights Valley CS! The former is easily one of me and my dining companion's favorite white wines thus far as it is such as an exceptional Village Riesling with the oomph of flavors, minerality, and fruit to take on strong-flavored fish!
The BKV CS, which I managed to secure for about half the price, was tremendous value for the price and topped a solid entry level wine from its immediate neighbor (BV Napa) that was 50% more expensive!
Keep the fantastic recommendations coming!!
The Poggione is nearer the €50 tag in Europe John. I can’t believe it’s that price in the USA.
Nice video, I appreciate the occasional focus on value wines. Just ordered R. Lopez de Heredia Cubillo Crianza, will be my first crianza. Cheers, keep up the great work! 🌺🙏🍷🌺
Good reccos as usual. I'll second the Santa Barbara and Central Coast offerings in my back yard.
What do you think of wines from Colome John? I just love them. It's very special with wines from such a high altitude;-) And what do you think about Champagne from Henriot? I just love them all…
Just found this channel – finding great values is my favorite thing in wine. Do you have any financial incentives for any of the wines you recommend? Any relationship with any of the distributors or vineyards? Thank you.
I picked up a bottle of the Stolpman Estate Syrah at a Whole Foods for about $29. I never expect much from wines I buy while getting groceries at Whole Foods, but this wine truly punched way about its price point. Exceptional value for a delicious and food friendly wine. I'm headed back to Whole Foods to load up on remaining bottles.
