The only difference with Philippines Spaghetti was the added sugar. Japan doesn't.
And Philippines' Carbonara were 3 in 1 (Alfredo, Stroganoff, Carbonara, because we use an all purpose cream instead of eggs due to ingredients being expensive and limited)
Next time when you make it don’t boil the pasta Leave the spaghetti in the room temperature water for 2 hours and then cook it with the other ingredients
Casually reminded myself of that time I, a Neapolitan, wanted to defend how this meal has something really Neapolitan in how it was created by grabbing whatever food you have in the kitchen and making something out of it… and then a discussion endured for MONTHS under my comment, where people NOT from Naples criticised me for thinking that this is something a person from Naples (aka ME) would do
This dish was invented when we Japanese were still really poor. Now we all know that this dish is not really Italian. But sometimes, we still want to eat this "Naporitan", relying on nostalgia.
The Japanese are not to blame for this. Ketchup noodles were originally a combat ration popular with the US military. After the war, the Americans who occupied Japan's luxury hotels as occupying forces ordered the Japanese chefs to make ketchup noodles. The chefs' pride was hurt when they were forced to make a menu that simply involved putting ketchup on pasta, so they used the scarce supplies of green peppers and ham and took the extra step of frying the boiled pasta to make this dish. If you have a problem with it, protest to the Americans.

I had it at a convenience store in Japan and it was better than I expected. At least it's much better than the sushi in Italy haha
