After 20 years of living in Italy and traveling across Europe, I still believe Italy is the best country to visit—hands down. From the alpine drama of the Dolomites to the sun-soaked coastline of Sicily, no other place delivers this much variety, flavor, history, and style in such a compact, chaotic, and beautiful package.
I walk through the 7 biggest reasons why Italy continues to crush the rest of Europe as a travel destination—whether it’s the regional food that changes every 100 kilometers, the trains that actually get you places, or the way history isn’t just something you visit, it’s something you live. I’ll also share one underrated region that most tourists skip, but locals adore—and trust me, you’ll want to put it on your list.
Italy isn’t perfect. The bureaucracy is bonkers, the trains are sometimes late, and good luck doing anything in August. But even its flaws are somehow lovable. It’s a country that teaches you to slow down, eat better, and live more boldly.
If you’re planning a trip or just dreaming of one, this video might convince you that Italy isn’t just a great option—it’s the best one.

This Itinerary Will Change Your Italy Trip: https://youtu.be/e6BN4FeONxE?si=GsVViv9m5ra7oq9n
I had a great time at Genova in January 2024. Heading to Torino now for September 2025. A local warned me that September is still high season in Torino, but I'll take my chances.
Gregor always brings the positivity 🙏🏼
The real best kept secret region in Italy to discover is Marche region. Italy in one region.
LEMON gelato! Soooo refreshing!
I can’t wait to get an affogato next month. I hope it’s as glorious as it looks and sounds
First time that an embedded ad was of interest. Normally I block ads, but this one fulfills a need. Never thought about what to do in a medical situation while overseas.
Pistachio!💚
Another great video! I was in Florence and then Rome back in January 2025. Great weather, great prices on hotels, and not too crowded. I will be going back in January of 2026. We’re doing Florence, Rome, and Naples.
Your videos helped us plan our trip earlier this year and we can’t wait to go back!! Cheers and wishing you all the best
Пистачио и лимон.
I'll eat any flavor or gelato as long as it's CHOCOLATE (And I'm partial to the dark)
Pistachio😋🇮🇹
Pistacchio and Nocciola are the two best gelato flavours! either alone, or in a duo.
If you can find it, blood orange gelato is the best.
I love how you point out the Italy off the beaten path! Avoid high cost Portofino by staying in Rapallo or Santa Margherita, and do a boat tour to Portofino. You can also do the same boat tour in the opposite direction, to Cinqueterre, beautiful views along the coast.
Stay in a small town at Lago di Garda and take day trips to winerys or Verona, beautiful landscape, history and food! Sit on a piazza in a bar, do some aperi cena, watch the people, go to a side street tavern and have the best pasta/pizza or what not.
Damn, I wanna go back now!
Nearly 70 years old my ONLY REGRET IN LIFE:NOT TO BE BORN IN ITALY.l'm french and when l arrive in Italy, all the opposite to the french people, italian people aren't ALWAYS COMPLAINING like the french do…and though italian people have got the same many political issues. The italian DOLCE VITA is wonderful.CARPE DIEM.The italian do know how to ENJOY LIFE.l do think in my dna certainly an italian person visited my family, some centuries ago.Thank you for your wonderful shares from the most wonderful country in the world.
Gelato al caramello salato, is the new " crack"
Because people are very accommodating and there's a lot to do and see! Food are diverse
Will be my first time EVER out of America and yes will be in Rome LW🙏🏾🙌🏽 and I hate to fly, this video makes me want to see EVERY area you spoke about 😩❤️
Thank you
❤ live and breathe Italy! Favorite gelato al cioccolato fondente e amarena".
Great Stuff as always/////
Making our first trip to Italy this week! Visiting Rome, napoli, and Orvieto. Have you ever been to Orvieto? I don't think I have seen a video of you in Orvieto.
Gelato? Nocciola è la mia preferita. 🍦
DO NOT GO TO ITALY if your goal are the most popular places. it is a mess with the overtourism. You will feel measurable.
Spent 3 weeks in July visiting Milan, Venice, Rome, Florence and it is really bad. Over packed over crowded museums, streets, restaurants and everything so expensive and felt like another Las Vegas in the better days but way more expensive very stressful and not enjoyable. Please listen him, his is telling the truth
Run away from the tourists traps and most popular sights, unless you are there first person in line in the morning
And yes even a bough ticket with a preselected time slot it still will not guaranty you will get inside without waiting in line beyond your time slot
I currently enjoying a family vacation in Rome, booked a room at a small boutique hotel in Campo Marzio in the the city centre. Like Gregor said, certain things are a bit glitchy, the elevator has a smaller area than my brother in law’s waistline and we had to haul our luggage up 4 flights of stairs, BUT, then once you settle in you start to explore the narrow streets that are packed with restaurants, cafes, all sorts
of mom and pop shops all within walking distance. After 3 days, I am already on a first name basis with waiter at one of the restaurants we frequent along with the baristas where I have my cornetto and cappuccino every morning. Rome is real, the food is great, the architecture is stunning, the people are all characters but absolutely charming. Rome takes beauty and weaponizes it. It draws you in, it makes you want to become more like a local every day. It may seem chaotic and somewhat disorganized but things do get done, maybe in an unusual and unorthodox manner. I need my Italy fix every few years to remind me how beautiful life can truly be. Italy has it all, period.
❤❤
Italian here: Italy is number one in the world! Not perfect of course but still n.1. I am not here to advertise Italy, I don’t like to see too many foreigners here. I just say facts. What we have here, nobody have. Nobody. And who writes here traveled a lot abroad to make comparison.
Just subscribed to your channel and your newsletter. Fantastic content. Congratulations and keep it up 👍
Grazie per i complimenti.❤
So Italy has been relegated from Best World Country to Visit to Only Best European one.
Vieni in Abruzzo.
Cassata,gelato❤❤❤❤
Italy impresses with its art, architecture, landscapes, natural beauty, historical richness, people's personality and I could go on and on… but Italy is not satisfied with just pleasing or making you happy, it waits for you, calm and sure, and you will fall in love sooner or later without understaning really well why
Si in puglia sono dei criminali a non denocciolare le olive. Chissene frega della tradizione se uno viene da fuori ci rischia ogni volta un dente. Fuori di testa.
Another nice vid
Grazie per la meravigliosa pubblicità che hai fatto del mio paese, non avevo mai sentito un tale trasporto❤
Italy is wonderful
My wife and I just got back from a 4 week summer vacation and loved it
But personally-I liked Spain better for several reasons not least of which is it seemed more developed-nicer hotels, nicer roads, more places with real air conditioning, and more service oriented. But yes Italy is amazing
We went to Rome, Florence, Lake Como, Milan, Sorrento, Positano, Capri, Pompei, and back to Rome
And my conclusion was Amalfi coast is ridiculously overrated and the North is amazing-Rome fantastic given all the history etc
Forgot Venice
Amazing sunsets and architecture-my favorite
As an Italian, I think our country is the best in just two conditions: or you are a tourist, or you retired with a lot of money.
As a young man, it’s like a golden prison which not allow you to realize your potential cause everything here is based on promoting the past, not the innovation.
As Italian must say there are lot of exaggerations about trains are late and our so called terrible bureaucracy. Depends on the specific situation you are going through but most time that’s not true or at least it’s not so different from other west countries. For example about our rate on trains being on time we are not so bad in Europe: check official statistics.
What are your thoughts on Bologna, Orvieto and Assisi?
