50 years later. The 1962 Bin 60 A of Penfolds is truly one of the great wines on the planet. The blend contains one third Coonawarra Cabernet and two third Barossa Shiraz. A hallmark in winemaking history that proves the longelivety of fine australian red wine. The wine was made by the great australian winemaker Max Schubert who was a visionary person in the business. The tasting of this wine (which came from the cellars of Penfolds) was held by Peter Gago the current Chief Winemaker of Penfolds during a tasting at Prowein fair in Düsseldorf, Germany. A real street tasting, because the light in the restaurant itself was a little clumsey. The Bin 60 A has everything. Layers of fruit, dried herbs and exotic spices intermingeling with earthy truffle notes. It isn’t heavily alcoholic and has a remarkable intense and almost creamy textured ‘portlike’ palate. Lot’s of years to come. An outstanding wine of which only 425 case were made.
