A planned 30% US tariff on EU wines could hike prices, slash choice, and force layoffs across America’s wine trade. The US wine industry warns that distributors who rely on European bottles for most of their revenue would collapse, hurting domestic winemakers and vintners too. While some California grape growers hope the tariffs will level the playing field for US winemakers, importers and retailers are skeptical that protectionism is the long-term solution. Critics say tariffs won’t fix oversupply or falling demand and would instead shrink the entire US wine ecosystem.

  1. Us grape growers with excess should do what Europe does turn the excess grapes into vinegar or ethanol. Tariffs on European wines will lead to Boycotts of US alcohol and wine.

  2. The US has BILLIONS in agricultural subsidies too…..don't feign innocence and point the fingers at everyone else.

  3. Trump put tariffs on all Canadian products claiming drug coming in from Canada. It’s not and he broke our free trade agreement that he signed in 2018. Canada in retaliation pulled all U.S wines and alcohol from our shelves. I can’t get any California wines that I like but hey, Trump started his stupid trade war.

  4. Dollar store works with oregon wine boys & sell wine for $1.25 a bottle. right here in the emerald triangle humboldt co california.
they pulled the weed fields and put in grapes down in mendo co. on the southern boarder of humboldt now they are really hurting grapes get destroyed in winter storms and dollar tree wine is a buck 25 for some pretty good wine.

  5. Wine consumption in Europe is declining. The EU subsidies are to harvest unripe grapes and distil some wine to reduce surplus, this is the market that US wines are trying to get into. US wines are also competing with Australian,. New Zealand, South African and South American wines. In reality Europe does not need US wines.

  6. 30% of US exports of wine go to Canada. All top end products. Canada no longer buys wine from the US, so much more wine available for US consumers , if they can afford their own top end wines.😂

  7. I’m against these tariffs generally, but the US growers have neglected that wind consumption globally is down and they’ve massively over planted grapes and they’re now wildly over producing.

  8. Here in the UK restaurants we have Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc for about £20 a bottle.

Visit US and the basic restaurants want $40 with Mall Restaurants looking for $70/$80.
