Aboard the Norwegian Cruiseline, Spirit. Our NCL excursion took us to the top of a mountain overlooking the bay at Napoli and to St. Gennaro Church where his body lies in a sarcophagus. It was part of the excursion unknowingly to us. The church makes claim to have his blood in vials that liquifies 3 times each year. He had been tortured and beheaded for visiting Christians during the great persecution. We were off on our own being left at the plaza by the Royal Palace. This was the best part, on our own exploring Naples walking. From the plaza you can walk feet away from Via Toledo and enjoy shopping and eating. The tram up to the mountain, village and “Castel St. Elmo” is on Via Toledo. Via Toledo has many shops and wonderful restaurants. An outdoor restaurant is right in front of the TRAM station where we had delicious pizza. On your own is best since the ship is 15 minute walking distance, the plaza, Via Toledo and the Tram is all a perfect walking experience. Castel St. Elmo on top of the mountain had a great view. The restaurant on top was perfect to refresh and take amazing photos.
