As a Swede I spit on the pizza chains, they just don't cut in comparison to our local pizzerias. The locals just use better ingredients and actually care for the product, the chains just want to cram out as much as possible for as little money possible. If mr Baker really loves the pizza he needs to go to Sweden and eat all of the special pizzas we have. I promise it is a treat, been living in Germany for 13 years and have wet dreams of Swedish pizza, I kid you not. The varities you must try imho are from bottom and up; Local Speciality pizza, every single pizza place has their own special, called Husets Special. What's on it, you ask!? No effing idea, it differs from one to another. 2) Pizza Vulcano(in Swedish Vulkan Pizza), the pizza that went viral years ago, haven't had it myself though so can't rate it really. 3)Demonic mystery pizzas! There are actually places serving pizzas with weird stuff(edible though tbf) and serving them either in a Calzone-form or as we in Sweden call Saucer-Pizza(Ufo-/Tefats-pizza). Can be a spagbol in it, a cheese burger, a dönerkebab(or donner for you Brits) or something else. How it is? Fook knows, this trend started up around a year or two after I moved so haven't tried. 4. Swedish Kebabpizza, the most beloved the day after-pizza of Sweden. Comes in many different forms but I prefer it when it is baked with tomato, cheese and meat and after baking topped with fresh tomatoes, cucumber, salad, peperonis and kebab sauce. Could also have fries on it if you feel extra cheeky/hungry/fit! For this kind of pizza I recommend visiting anywhere west of lake Vänern down to around Halmstad and in landup towards Borås, but no further east than about 12 km outside of the small town of Nässjö. Imho the rest of Sweden has no clue what a really nice kebab sauce is. 5. An Oxfilé pizza, the creme de la creme when it comes to pizza imho. Oxfile is filet of beef(but I do really believe most pizzerias actually use the part you make roastbeef from to cut some corners when it comes to cost, do not matter a bit as it still slaps you silly and dumbfounded of bliss when you eat it!) and it also comes in many varities. My own personal favourite has oxfilé, garlic, fresh tomatoes, gorgonzola, ham, onion and as the perfect finish saucé bearnáise. That is what I dream of actually. I bloody fooking love it and am a bit obsessed by it. It is also the sole reason I rank Sweden as undisputed number one in the pizza game after having had pizzas in 69 different countries so far. Italy are ofc second on the list and then a giant leap downwards to the rest.
I had to refrain myself a bit here, pizza is my ultimate passion and I can easy write over 10K words about all the love I feel for some bread paired with a tomato-sauce(yes, I am not the biggest of fan of bianco pizzas), cheese and the toppings you might favour for the day.
And yes, fooking hell yes, pineapple do belong on a pizza. IF you like it, have it. If you don't then just don't! But do not fooking try to tell me not to have it because I WILL bodyslam you like a crybaby throws a tantrum. M'kay?
