We’re on the countdown to welcoming our first guests to the Italian farmhouse. They are good friends who are going to help us with some important renovation jobs, but they need somewhere to sleep!
In this video, we set about creating a bedroom. A trip to IKEA in Rome is needed and a lot of furniture construction awaits. We also give the kitchen a mini-makeover, clean the demijohn wine bottles that were left in the wine cellar and plumb in a new washing machine.

Wow, the house looks great. The guest room is perfect & very sufficient for short term visits. I've always felt spacious bathrooms were wasted space. You do your toileting, wash up, dry off, get pretty & leave. You can practice your dance moves elsewhere.

One way to clean jars is to add ice and corse salt. “Gently “ spin the ice around and it cleans the inside of the jar.

Incredible how the mattress bulked out! It is all lovely ..the bedroom looks really inviting.you are both a little negative and justifying things! We are loving it all. I remember watching a washing machine working in a shed in France and it was like a meditation after months of handwashing! X

I'd suggest setting the washer on a cement block platform to keep it off of the damp floor and make access easier.

It may be only temporary but your guest bedroom looks lovely! So did your washing machine flood or was the waste outlet ok? The outlet on mine here is on a bit of an incline.

That black bug is what I would call a spruce bug (Monochamus scutellatus) here in British Columbia, though they are native to North America, so yours may be a look alike. The "new" room looks great and your guests should be quite comfortable. 😃

I have seen professional bottle diggers use bird grit with detergent and water to clean the inside of hard to clean bottles. Just give everything a good shake. As for your washing machine in Australia we can get what are called grey water hoses to attatch to your hose drainage pipe. You just run that hose out to the grass and garden. My citrus trees love it. It works for me because I don't have a waste pipe either.

To clean the inside of the bottles, fill it with water and pop in the cleaning tablets they use for dentures. I've only used this on crystal decanters, but it works a treat. You might need quite a few tablets.

For the scrubbing brush see if there is a screw thread on the top of the handle. You might be able to attach an extender pole to it.
