Italy is famous for its icons—Rome, Florence, Venice—but what about the destinations Italians actually love? In this video, I take you beyond the tourist trail to the cities and regions that locals keep returning to: from the olive groves of Puglia to the elegant piazzas of Turin, the border-town blend of Trieste, and the wild drama of the Dolomites.
These places aren’t hidden gems—they’re just overlooked by mass tourism. That means fewer crowds, lower prices, and a more authentic connection to Italy’s culture, food, and everyday life. Whether it’s sipping spritz in Polignano, tasting risotto in Turin, or hiking in the shadow of the Dolomites, this is the Italy most travelers never see.
And I’ll share the one place even locals hesitate to tell you about—the one spot they secretly don’t want to give up.

Go Gregor!! Go Italy!!!!
Perfettamente d'accordo con te. ❤❤❤
🕊🇮🇹🕊
The South Tirol is a stunning region, some of the most beautiful mountains in the world.
Thank you for sharing 😊
Was that baby Gregor photoed at 4:45?
Great stuff, Turin looks very interesting, can you get a train from Rome for an initial day visit?
Hi Gregor! I've been a subscriber for a few months and wanted to ask your thoughts on Turin! I’m a foodie, and between the gianduja and Barolo, it sounds like a dream. Do you have a full video on Turin?
Trieste will always be special to me, too. We regularly visit from nearby Croatia. Regionally, my top pick is Sicily. It grabs my heart and doesn't let go. The views over Cefalù are almost painfully beautiful.
Beautiful video thank you!
Spectacular video and poetic narration as always! You hit a couple on my bucket list!
Hmm…got more ideas for future trips to Italy with this latest video from you…such a bad influence…🤣🤣🤣
Love This Video
A friend from Trieste was surprised that we'd been there – he said that even most Italians had never visited. As for Taormina, it's a spectacular location, but we found it overrun with (mostly Italian) tourists and full of shops selling 'luxury goods' and overpriced gelato.
Thank you Gregor! Love your videos. I have been watching them for a year while I planned an Italy trip. My family and I are in Italy right now, visiting from Canada. We are doing a 3 week road trip, started in Rome, made our way to the Dolomites and now currently in Camogli in Liguria. My favorite spot so far. Beautiful!. Next trip in a couple years will be South Italy. Keep up the awesome videos! Grazie mille!!!
If I get a second shot at Italy, my ideal vacation would include a couple days of cycling in the Dolomites.
Given the current state of the world, would you feel safe traveling to Europe, specifically Paris/Italy?
Ciao Gregor. I retired to Lipari 10 years ago. I concur with your recommendations.
Polignano posto tranquillo … mmmm…. Forse qualche anno fa
