What started as a simple family getaway turned into an unexpectedly rich journey through two of Italy’s most culturally vibrant and design-inspiring regions — Puglia and Basilicata. From charming villages to cinematic backdrops, every corner surprised us with its authenticity, history, and warmth.

We explored hidden gems and picturesque towns recommended by locals — places you won’t find in the usual guides. Think cobblestone streets, whitewashed houses, artisan boutiques, and mouthwatering food that felt straight out of a film.

  1. Amazing. We went to Lecce this year but did not make Matera. Next time. Could you list the places you stayed and restaurants?

  2. Hi Italy lovers! Can anyone help with the links or names for the masseria accommodation and the beautiful antique shop they visited in Ostuni? Thank you!!!!

  3. Your video popped up on my recommendations because I'm always looking for videos on Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece and sometimes France, as I dream of retiring somewhere in that general region. I've seen several videos of the Puglia region of Italy, but none as lovely as your video.

While I usually envision settling somewhere fairly close to the sea for my retirement, the city of Matera seriously struck a chord in me. The description you gave, "once a symbol of hardship, Matera is now celebrated as one of Italy's most remarkable stories of resilience and renewal" resonated deeply within me, as I hope to make the final chapters of my own life fit that very description. The entire appearance of Matera is also exactly what I dream of… a well-preserved historic, medieval, stone, and rustic city where time seems to have stood still, not only in its appearance but in its community, culture and gastronomy as well. Even the ever present candle light is something I've always adored. So much of Matera actually reminded me of Turkey's region of Cappadocia, which I fell in love with.

Thank you for sharing your wonderful video. It led me to subscribe to your channel, and it has given me a new city to consider for my forever home, which I hope life will allow me to select in the near future. 💕

  4. It was beautifully edited and photographed and loved your input and personal perspectives.
