While waiting for our kitchen renovations to finish so we can get back to cooking, we thought we would use the time to explore Italy and hopefully find some amazing food along the way.

In this case, we were looking for bread. Sounds simple, right? Not exactly…

Check out this week’s video to see our adventure in Puglia while searching for Italy’s best bread (and how it almost ended in a disappointing disaster).

A big thank-you to Gianvito of Forno Antico Santa Chiara for introducing us to the best bread we’ve ever had! Check out his family’s bakery on Instagram @forno_antico_s.chiara_dal1423

  1. Italy is very mountainous. I bet Eva is happy. Happy wife is a good life. USA is not a good to live at the moment.

  2. If I’m ever able to travel to Italy, that bakery will be top of my list of places to visit. ❤❤

  3. At first, I wondered why you went to Forno Santa Caterina and not Santa Chiara. Then I understood: you saved the best for the end of the video! Greetings from Altamura!

  4. I live in Calabria, Santo Dominava Talao. I will take a road trip to discover this bread. I want to done at your restaurant as well. ❤️🇮🇹

  5. Just moved to Matera from Canada and still on the hunt for great bread. Altamura is 19 km from me – guess where I’m headed tomorrow morning 😂 🥖 So far we like “Barese” bread…. We have to keep our thoughts to ourselves on bread – here your choice of bread can be politically polarizing 😅 it’s nice to live in a place where the food is sooooo important! Oh, and I’ll be sure to check out the cheese shop too!

  6. Now, you gotta watch your backs. Those people from Altamura are gonna come for you for saying their bread isn't the best! haha I'm going to Italy for the second time in September. I'm staying in the north again. I'm taking my two granddaughters and we're staying at my best friends house in Rome. Visiting Florence and Venice too. I hope we find good food like you guys make! I'm sure we will. NEXT TRIP, I'm going to Calabria and Cicily! Can't wait to eat at your place!

  7. I love Puglia❤! We go to Puglia every year for our vacation, unfortunately not this year. So maybe you can show us the beauty of Puglia in more videos 😊?

  8. In Spanish “Miga” is what we call “the CRUMB” in English. (The center of the bread with holes). What’s it called in Italian?

  9. I made great Italian bread for 7 years.
The paddle is called a peel, lmao..
Pushing and pulling an oven like that is a skill…

  10. Do more of these type of videos! It shows people the real Italy and not just the tourists areas! It also demonstrates how rich the simple Italian lifestyle is in tradition and what Italians hold near and dear to their hearts! Family and food!

  11. I was hoping to see the reaction of Eva’s mom & dad to the bread and cheeses. Love when they are on.
Great video, love that you’re in Italy now! Greetings from 🇨🇦

  12. Great job guys! I hope your happy back in Italy and I’ll be looking forward to more awesome videos like this.
If you occasional go to different cities and villages and explore family run food business like this it would be really interesting!
    Thanks!

  13. My mouth is literally watering through this whole episode. Good bread and cheese are all you need in life!

  14. Hard to find good bread in Italy. I lived here for many years and it's sad how little attention there is to bread. You can find it, but you have to look.

  15. Harper, I was thinking the same as you – 5 kilos isn’t enough for you! It’s going to be a weekly trip to that bread shop! I am wishing I was in the backseat of your car- munching all the way back to Dasa! 😊

  16. The type of bread that they chose to make it looks like a small ball on top of a bigger ball, it's called the country loaf and you can Google that and you'll be shown exactly what it looks like in Italy and it's just the shape of bread. They cook it a lot in the UK in different parts of Europe I'm surprised they're using the shape of country loaf

  17. Lovely video; my mouth is watering! Is there any chance of a demonstration/ technique of the bread (as close as you can get) Or, do you think the baker would demonstrate? Did you pick up any of the local flour? Thanks again for sharing your adventures..

  18. My biggest fear of visiting places like this on my first trip to Italy is literally eating my way though..OMG ! But what a smile I would have on my face !! 👍

  19. By Gosh, this is torture! I have been looking high and low for, imagine, not the best italian bread, but just a good everyday italian bread here in New York City and it has been such a disappointment! It seems that Bimbo Bakeries bought all the bakeries in NYC and everything is bad! I was happy with JJ Cassone's bread, but lately it seems that energy costs are too high and bread is "springy" no more! Guess I will have to go to Italy to buy my bread!
