Does older wine actually taste better than younger wine? I bought 6 bottles from the same legendary Bordeaux producer spanning 100 years to find out once and for all – from a brand new 2021 all the way back to a ridiculously expensive 1924 bottle

Have you ever wondered if older wine actually tastes better than younger wine? I decided to find out by buying six bottles from the same legendary Bordeaux producer spanning 100 years – from a brand new 2021 bottle all the way back to a century-old 1924 vintage. In this ultimate wine aging experiment, I taste and rank each bottle to discover the truth about wine aging, whether expensive aged wine is worth the investment, and if there’s a point where old wine becomes too old. You’ll learn about how wine develops over time, the science behind wine aging, what makes wine go bad, and why proper wine storage with the right temperature, humidity, and cork quality is so crucial for vintage wine collecting.

This wine tasting journey reveals everything about how wine changes as it ages – from the way tannins mellow out and fruit flavors develop to when secondary and tertiary wine flavors emerge. I’ll show you the visual differences between young and aged wine, explain wine sediment and color changes, and share honest wine reviews with real prices so you know what to expect when buying older bottles. Whether you’re a wine beginner curious about wine education, a wine enthusiast interested in wine investment, or someone wondering if that expensive vintage bottle is worth it, this experiment answers the big question: is aged wine really better? Plus, you’ll get practical wine tips about wine storage, how to open old wine bottles safely, and how to spot the difference between properly aged wine and wine that’s gone bad.

  1. You’re the certified sommelier, but don’t you think the cork should be inspected for signs of leakage? Also, very often TCA can be detected by sniffing the cork in my experience.

  2. "Rocked my dick and balls off" now that's a wine review! Awesome like always, although, I'd have liked to see you blind them. Still great, thanks for sharing.

  3. content is great, you need to focus on your face when you are talking though, the camera focus is on the bottles and your face is blurred.

  4. Dustin, good sir! Bravo! You spend so much time, effort, and funds on showcasing wines for the people. Then you stepped into the world that I am sure you are too familiar with, and BOOM, there is DUSTIN! Giving A scores away like it is 1999! Bravo, my man! This was an excellent tasting. You spilled knowledge throughout! You taught us all about aging wines and how Bords should taste, and you proved that just because you spent money does not mean you will throw an S, A+, or even an A score on the wine. Professional, knowledgeable, and dropping truth! Bravo!

  5. Question….when a very old bottle is opened, say 20 years or older…can you drink it over a few days or must you drink it all the day you open it? Does it disintegrate quickly since its now oxygenated?

  6. Great video, thanks. In my 40 years experience, Bordeaux grand crus older than 30 years are a gamble, except the 1st and top 2nd crus. Good preservation is crusial. Price-quality rarely OK. Between 10-20 years of age predominantly top.

  7. Another great video. I'd like to add that not all great old wines resonate with everyone. I was a dinner where one of my friends brought 2 bottles of 1998 Priorat, 3 of us LOVED it, 1 thought it was "interesting", and the other 2 ordered a bottle of Turley. No one was wrong.

  8. Wow, that’s incredible! Thank you for being here and creating such fantastic videos — I’d never really thought about the chemistry behind aging wine before! Last weekend, my dad opened a bottle in celebration of his 81st birthday — it was from 1988, the year I was born. I was amazed by how complex the wine had become after all those years, even though I have to admit I didn’t like the taste that much. But 100 years? Just… wow!

  9. Another killer video! What a great vertical! I wish I had multiple bottles from the same producer. I can’t hold on to my vintage bottles long enough to try a vertical. Every time I by an older vintage wine I want to dive right in to see if it is dead or alive. Keep up the good work my man!

  10. Nice job! How did you find these wines? Salud! From a fellow colleague. 🍷 your videos are way better than mine. 🤣 I do quick videos for my customers and friends etc. keep up the good work!

  11. My favorite video thus far!!!
    Such fun..
As the years progressed I found my self trying to predict when the rabbit was gonna turn, fruit totally gone, lots of forest floor..
    Thanks Dustin..
I know this one was expensive for you.
Question,in regards to the half bottles..
I have read that smaller bottles age faster..
    How much variance is there?
Full size and half size, same year, sitting right beside each other in the cellar..
Is the smaller much more aged or is it negligible..
    Just curious.
*had to come back to say that I was in the room with you..
I found my myself watching the whole video with a smile plastered on my face..
    I know what your thinking,nope,no wake n bake this morning,just coffee,lol..

  12. Such a great video! I learned so much! You do such a fun job helping explain and visualize what each of the wines smell/taste like! Loved it!
