It must’ve been a harrowing realization from the wine merchants looking to dilute their wine with untainted wine and realizing there is not enough unpoisoned wine in existence to actually be able to dilute it. It reminds me of the story of onceler when he cuts down the last tree and can no longer make his product does he realize the horror he has done
