Where can you find the BEST Italian food in New York City? Sal “The Voice” Valentinetti and Anthony Sciarratta—hosts of the Breaking Bread podcast—recommend Michael’s of Brooklyn, a legendary red sauce joint serving up some of the best old school Italian-American fare in the five boroughs. Located at 2929 Avenue R, Michael’s has been operating in South Brooklyn since 1964, and manages to stands out even in a neighborhood known for having some of the best Italian-American cooking in the country.

I could listen to Sal talk about food all day. Who's with me?
Enzo is the best server I've ever had in my life. Love that guy.
No one! The Cosplay is over the top fake!
I feel as a Canadian Italian. Your recreation of Italian food is very heavy. And I agree with the Italians in Italy. 🇮🇹. But that being said. Americans are awesome and you made it your own. Well done America 🇺🇸 ❤
I bet if you wear a baseball hat in this joint you’ll get a slap.
I agree with you 💯💯💯
This gent sounds like Sinatra
Please can u guys stop calling this Italian. Say Italian America please this it’s not Italian.
Sal! We need more Sal!
💯 agree. I’ve had Italian food, in Italy- it’s good. But Italian American sauce joints 1000% hits on more levels of your tongue’s soul. That said, I’ve had the smashed veal chop at my neighborhood spot and I ask them to put the sauce on the side. It’s better that way. Just saying.
I grew up in mid Michigan. If we wanted Italian we went to Pizza Hut.
i would go here all the time since the 80s, haven't been here since about 2001, it was amazing then, it can only mean its still amazing…
Never experienced such a place or meal. Little envious.. no very envious…

Wow. Wish we had places like this in more rual parts on the west coast. Or westerm US.
This looks like a great place
Less money on the food Sal more on botox
Sal , I have to admit you are without any doubt the best person ever to listen to describing food.
Blessings to you and your family.
I forgot where I read it, but the food historian spoke of how food my grandparents and others brought over was a snapshot of food as it was eaten by them, and as we all know using the available ingredients. United States is also incredibly huge & unlike their parents they had access to foods from land and sea. .. Is is the same w other foods and cuisine … and food I atd as a American kid, not all of it still exists or is common anymore. .I don't blame the Italians to be annoyed…places like Olive Garden are horrible, but in-between the chains are sone gems ..
Fab! Where’s the red wine??
Sal is a character. Very likable. Great voice. Needs his own show. Very nice guy. Total personality.

Guess what country doesn't drown every dish and sauce and mozzarella?! That'll be Italy! New York food has nothing to do with real Italian food
Horrible pronunciation of Italian words
Freakin’ loved this review. If I’m ever back in NYC I’m going to this restaurant for sure.
Every time a couple gumba wannabes start telling us it's the best ever…..
Nope. My skeptical radar pegs out. Pfft😂
