This wine took me by surprise on my last visit to the Umbria area of Italy, and in particular Montefalco, where Sagrantino is king; but then there are these little pockets and wineries where some other amazing wines are being made – today it’s one of those wines, the Cesarini Sartori 2019 Merlo, a sparkling wine with a surprise under the caged-cork … available at the winery (and other fine wine stores).
