See all the highlights from this year’s World Cheese Awards in Bergamo, Italy from the morning’s general judging all the way through to the Super Jury where they crowned Rogue River Blue from Oregon’s Rogue Creamery as the World Champion Cheese, our first ever American winner.
The awards were streamed live online to an international audience courtesy of Silverstream as hosts Nigel Barden and Charlie Turnbull interviewed judges about the cheeses on their tables before the Super Jury sat in front of a live audience to decide the winning cheese.
On Friday 18th October 2018, a judging panel of 260 cheese experts from 35 different countries spent the day tasting 3,804 cheeses from 42 nations.
This year sees the 32nd edition of the World Cheese Awards visit Bergamo in Italy with a record-breaking 3,804 entries – an increase of 10% from last year. Cheeses came from six continents from places like Argentina, Australia, Canada, Mexico, Norway, Russia, South Africa, Turkey and for the first time ever, Japan.
A panel of 260 cheese buyers, cheese makers, retailers and food writers came from all corners of the globe to judge this year’s entries which included 42 cheeses from Japan, 845 cheeses from Italy and from cheesemakers established as long ago as 1225.
