Living in Sicily has been an eye-opening experience, full of new discoveries and surprising moments. The island’s lifestyle is deeply rooted in tradition, with a relaxed pace that encourages us to savor life’s simple pleasures.

From the moment we arrived, it was clear that Sicily’s slower rhythm of life offers a refreshing change. The culture here invites you to embrace simplicity — to appreciate the small moments, whether it’s enjoying a leisurely meal, soaking in the natural beauty, or spending time with loved ones. It’s a lifestyle that encourages slowing down and living with intention.

However, while the Sicilian way of life offers tranquility, it also came with a few sticker shock moments. For example, one of our first surprises was the price of eggs. In Texas, we used to pay $10.51 for a dozen large, pasture-raised eggs.

But here in Sicily, we found the same high-quality eggs for less than €2 — and the eggs were even larger than the box claimed. This stark price difference made us realize just how affordable certain items can be here.

Shopping at the Arcipelago Shopping Center was another eye-opening experience. We were amazed to find great deals, such as an espresso machine that cost just €109 — a fraction of the $349.99 price tag in the U.S. We also discovered Italian boxed cakes for €6.39, which would easily cost more than double in the States.

Whether it’s buying household items, savoring a delicious Sicilian meal for €39, or simply wandering through the charming streets, Sicily has been full of pleasant surprises. The affordability, coupled with the island’s charm and rich cultural heritage, makes this place a unique and rewarding experience.

Join us as we share our adventures and the unexpected price differences that make living in Sicily so special.

  1. Your cottage looks so nice. The mountains are beautiful. Wonderful prices. Thanks for sharing.

  2. good evening dears it's always a pleasure to see your videos, they are very relaxing. You did well to choose a cottage a little outside the village because in the countryside the air is cleaner and more fragrant. I still remember this scent of fresh grass when spring has not yet exploded in all its strength but the days are already warmer and sunnier. So many memories of my happy childhood come back to me when my parents took me on picnics in the countryside… certainly it's a healthy lifestyle because the food is fresh and genuine and the air is clean. Now we wait to see a video on the "sfinci di S. Giuseppe", they are fritters filled with custard or ricotta that are sold at the time of the feast of S. Giuseppe (March 19th) .in Italy, St. Joseph's Day is also Father's Day ) . Let us know if you like them 😄

  3. I totally agree! As a single person, I can get away with budgeting €200 per month for food, here in Sicily. I was shocked when I heard about the high prices in the states. 😮 Glad to hear that you are settling in nicely. 🤗

  4. Beautiful Video. Your Town is Beautiful. I would love to see the inside of your cottage. I heard the sound of your birds. That's so nice you can hang up clothes. That looked like a really nice shopping center. Quaint town. What kind of music was neighbor playing?
Do you go to the Beach? What have you been cooking? Is Brother Roy feeling better?🙏😕
Are you allowed to have a pet? How's Church? Ok honey, enough questions for this video anyhow. I like your car. It's nice you can sit outside too. 🙌🙌🤗🤗🙏👍👏👏💞
    Love You. Ciao

  5. Carol, I love seeing your everyday life in Carini! So interesting, the affordability to live in Sicily. And nice to be near family. Keep your videos coming, I enjoy them so much!

  6. We watch you on TV but I'll comment here on my phone about how enjoyable it was to watch this video. I loved seeing more of your area in Carini and the shopping was fun to watch, especially the good deals!. I love watching Croce and his brother enjoying family time. Will you stay in the house you are in now? Or are you are you going to look for something else? Do you speak Italian together when you are out among the people or just English unless you are speaking to locals?
Thanks for such a variety of topics❤

    enjoying family time.

  7. Two days and I will be in Castellammare del Golfo! Staying for another 3 months then hoping that I will be approved for an Elective Residency visa. Buona giornats, Paul

  8. Hi Carol and Croche. The price you paid in Sicily is pretty hard to beat. What lovely views you have. The area where your cottage looks beautiful and serene. Only yesterday, I was wondering how you both were getting on. Thank you for the update. Take care 😊🙏💕

  9. Can't wait to go visit my family in-law in Sicily in a few months. Going for Christmas also this year. We have lots of lemon trees down there. I love that place so much.

  12. Hope that heater is not your only heating device, as could be cheap but elecricity surely is not. Nice bonus with European eggs is that no need to keep in fridge
