The 100 Point Scoring System (from www.robertparker.com):
96-100: An extraordinary wine of profound and complex character displaying all the attributes expected of a classic wine of its variety. Wines of this caliber are worth a special effort to find, purchase and consume.
90 – 95: An outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and character. In short, these are terrific wines.
80 – 89: A barely above average to very good wine displaying various degrees of finesse and flavor as well as character with no noticeable flaws.
70 – 79: An average wine with little distinction except that it is soundly made. In essence, a straightforward, innocuous wine.
60 – 69: A below-average wine containing noticeable deficiencies, such as excessive acidity and/or tannin, an absence of flavor or possibly dirty aromas or flavors.
50 – 59: A wine deemed to be unacceptable.
When you think of Brazil – what comes to mind? Football, the Amazon rainforest, Carnival, Tropical weather, and Caipirinhas. Brazil is the sixth largest wine producer in the Southern Hemisphere with 81,000 ha under vine and over 1.100 wineries. Yet, most people, including me, never connected the country to wine but maybe it is time to change that.
So let me taste my first wines from Brazil especially because many of you have asked me again and again to do so… The first vines arrived in Brazil in the 16th century, but it was not easy to cultivate the vine in the country’s mainly hot and humid climate. More successful than the fragile European Vitis Vinfera vines were the sturdy and high-yielding Hybrids Concord, Isabel, and Niagara and even today most of the vineyards in Brazil are planted to non-vinifera varietals.
However, Brazil also offers the right conditions for vinifera vines if you look carefully. The country is huge and the climatic conditions between the north and the south are very different.
90% of Brazilian wine production takes place in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. This is the southernmost state of Brazil, and it is neighboring the more famous wine-producing countries Argentina and Uruguay.
The country’s wine industry is focused on sparkling wines, but its 10 growing regions allow for the production of various styles and the most widely planted vinifera grapes cover a lot of ground in terms of wine styles with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir for reds, and Chardonnay, Moscato Bianco and Glera for whites.

With a relative small production and a recent decades trend when the wine consumption of wine among the uppers clsses was in place, there is not much room to export Brazilian wine commercially out of the country in quantities.
The top vineyards instead, in order to sell their quality product to Brazilian gourmets consumers get used to participate those wine festivals an competitions on Europe and US in order to boost one product that eventually achieve one of this golden labels you saw… And get some reconnaissance (or chance to try) of our own most exigent top buyers…
Thing common on domestic markets seek their quality products get a fair chance to compete, in the Brazilian market, with all those imported wines from all around the world and mainly with those of ours most internationally known neighbors like Chile, Argentina and Uruguai.
Just fighting one cultural Brazilian trend to evaluate ours nationals products with heavy and sometimes unfair prejudice.
As the common Brazilian saying:
Santo de casa não faz milagre…
Home saint does not perform miracles…
Only the others outside do that…
❤❤❤🇧🇷
The Salton Brut Rosé is a 5 USD sparkling wine here in Rio Grande do Sul. Very accessible indeed.
Personally, I believe Brazil is better suited for sparkling and white wines. The reds are hit and miss.🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Tks a lot for this Brazilian Wine presentation.

I really apreciate your avaliation of brazilian wines, bust I have to suggest you to maka another taste round for another region, called Campanha Gaúcha.
Hi Konstantin, I very much enjoy your videos and for sure have learned a lot from them, I am from Mexico and I am located near the Valle de Guadalupe wine region, which is the largest wine region for my country, if you would like to do a video of Mexican wines, please feel free to write back and I can help with providing some great examples from this region and other ones. stay thirsty!
Nice reviews! But I invite you to come to Brasil and see how diverse our wine making really is! I’m from Brasilia, the capital, and we got some very interesting wines in our region! Wine from Brazilian Savana! 😊 And if you really come, also ask for the cheeses! 😅
as far as Brazilian sparkling wines are concerned, the best line of products comes from the Familia Geisse winery, I suggest you try them; regards,
Congrats for the profissional analysis.
I miss my favorites , Cave Geisse and Guaspari .
Best sparkling and red wine in Brazil .
Finally! Thank you
Obviously the better ones are the 5 little bottles, optimized for getting drunk and for headaches, before football matches.
This Salton one is not expensive… and that is the best thing about it. It is a good price for what you get!
I took the price of a wine – for example, Pizzato Semillon. It costs 30 dollars (!). Casa Pedrucci costs USD 13.00 and Lídio Carraro, USD 52.00. You know very well what you can buy with these prices… Brazilian wine is very expensive. There is no point in saying that it is the fault of high Brazilian taxes. Wine-producing countries have better wines for a few dollars. Do not visit Brazil. Do not drink wine from Brazil. It is not worth it. It is my country, but I am sorry: making an impartial analysis leads us to this conclusion. Furthermore, I deeply disagree with some of the evaluations. For example, put any European wine worth 50.00 dollars next to Lídio Carraro and compare. To conclude: thank you for your considerations.
Hahaha… you need that surveillance protection MOST in Germany and the UK, mate!
I have some recommendations: Cave Geisse Nature sparkling wine, Guaspari red wines which are our best and one wild card from the northeast of the country Rio Sol Paralelo 8
@VinicolaAurora send some bottles to this guy!
Brazil has some of the most amazing sparkling I've ever tasted, specially among the high end ones. I'd suggest also tasting of Tannat from Brazil, it is totally different from Uruguayan ones. You could chase further sparkling from Casa Valduga (130) an Miolo (Millesime) or maybe the Chandon (Excellence), big producers in the regions but with good general quality. Smaller wineries may have some very distinctive wines as well. If you had the Salton Ouro Extra Brut Rosé I think you would be impressed. It's only one line above the one you tasted.
You need to taste the carbernet franc
Here in Portugal i remember that i bought one Tannat from Brazil and it was really a eyer opener. Very lively and fruity. And the aftertaste, unbelievable. I've never seen anything like this before. Pretty remarkable.
You have to taste Maria Maria from Minas Gerais 🎉🍷👍🏻🥂
Pizzato Merlot is beautiful
Brazil mentioned
You should visit UVVA in Mucugê – Bahia.
Great to see Brazilian wines here, The sparkling wines tasted are not the best ones I would love see you do a tasting of some others like Cave Geise Nature and Brut, Lírica and Casa Valduga 24 months maybe next time 😊
Brazilian wines are crap with terrible quality!
You just made my day
You needed a Casa Valduga wine. Friends with Gaucho's and that is their favorite too. Though, the two times I have been to Brazil, it has always been a focus on quality Caçhaca's😋
I do not buy salton since slavery scandall
Great video! My favorite Brazilian sparklings are from Casa Valduga and Luiz Argenta. Casa Valduga's traditional method sparkling wines (Maria Valduga and 130 especially) are round, balances, and toasty while Luiz Argenta's have a character unique to their winery and on the crisper, more angular side.
I also had an interesting Syrah from a winery in central Brazil called Villa Triacca. They use a "dupla poda" method to offset the harvest to the winter when the conditions are similar to summers in other wine regions. There's a lot to explore, I wish these wines were exported more!
Cool. Please taste GUASPARI top wines. They poured a billion into making a really world class state. Also have some pretty good recommendations for sparking. The terroir in south Brazil is particularly for “champagne”-like wines
Bravo!
Happy to provide a list of interesting wines NOT from the South
Hate Salton Rose. Really bad.
Konstantin, I'm Brazilian and I really appreciate wine. In my opinion, Brazilian wine still needs evolution.
But I believe that your wine selection was not very good, there are many better wines than those tasted in this video.
If you want, I can send you some other options that are much better in my opinion.
How on earth you guys let him try those sparkling as a contender from Brazil???? Jezzz! Try a pinot from Casa Valduga, ar a moscatel from Nova Aliança, for crist sakes!
Awesome!! I’d like to see you trying more of ur wines!
Cave gaisse is really good one “espumante”! Almaunica Syrah S8 and Pizzato DNA99 is delicious as well!
Grande Daniel Lopes!
