Thanks for the video.
Many of my friends have really gotten stuck on bourbon barrel aged wine. And I think they’ll be stuck there for a while. 🙁
Also I was surprised that you didn’t mention Kermit Lynch for importers.
Cheers.
Excellent video with great advice!
Good video great advice. For me if you suggest something. If it’s in my area and I can find it. I don’t mind trying it because chances are I haven’t tried it. Because of you I gave pinot noir another try. Found one’s i enjoy between the 20 , and 35 dollar price range.
Vineyard Brands is another importer bringing great wines into the market.
good stuff!
Great video. Agree with a comment posted here. Love vineyard brands (they import a lot of great stuff), another great importer is Misa imports. Looking at who the importer is, is a great way to select wines for purchase when you aren’t quite sure about a wine. If you find an importer you like it’s basically a for sure thing you are going to like all of their wines.
Great advice Matthew!
For my palette, I have found producer (their style will typically carry over across their range) and importer (Kermit Lynch!) are my biggest signals that I will like a wine. And whenever I am at a restaurant with a sommelier, I will typically choose the region (I tend to drink old-world) and defer to the somm for what they think is the sweet spot on their list. This strategy has often lead me to makers I did not know— especially Burgundy, or to less expensive wines that I had overlooked.
Another great video. I hold an Introductory sommelier certificate and in a previous life I worked as wine writer. I've tried "everything" from vin de table to super Tuscan, Burgundy, "Claret etc La Tache was the climax. Nowadays I have a well stocked wine fridge and when I drink I favour quality over quantity. When people ask me "hey what should drink?" I say "drink whatever you like and don't spend a fortune unless you want to get into wine". I'm no Whisky/Whiskey buff, unlike some people, and I'm perfectly happy to knock back a J&D, Johnnie Walker, Canadian Club etc it doesn't cost a fortune and makes me very happy. Love your channel; keep up the good work. Good evening from London.
As always, I listen to you, and not my other Doctor !
Thanks Brother for posting.
Appreciate ya
I tend to watch your channel a lot to learn from you. However the idea that you can’t get a good bottle from Aldi or a Trader Joe’s is something I have to disagree with. The rose wine from Tavel sold at TJ’s for about 10-11 bucks is delicious. Also a tasting is not always a good thing to go to because you have to deal with the drunks that just go to tasting to get a buzz on.
Have you tried Mimic? It's italian, Mostly sangeovasi, I probably spelled that wrong. And it's six dollars at total wine.
Another great importer is Kermit Lynch . At tastings I now spit, but that is a learned technique.
Great video thanks
Thank you for the great advice. I love trying new wines and exploring and hope to someday find a wine tasting group in my area to explore even further.
Thank you for another great video, as always! I think pretentiousness and snobbery are some of the biggest barriers preventing new audiences from getting into wine. Some wine snobs believe that drinking expensive, luxury wines (or lesser known) elevates their social status or sth and look down on those who enjoy more affordable options. Wine people need to be more open-minded about cheap, entry-level wines, including mass-produced big-brand wines. Wine is one of my biggest hobbies, so I fully understand that these low-quality, recipe wines don’t represent what well-made wines have to offer but everyone has to start somewhere. You can't run before you walk. There’s a reason these wines exist and why they’re produced on such a large scale. Many wine experts usually shit on cheap, low-quality wines but I also think you have to experience bad wines to have better references and understanding of what makes better-produced wines different.
Good Work Sir
as a beginner
I think it is more important to get relax and go for your own taste
Forget the so call 'wine knowledge'
I like Italian Wine, but my friends do not. That poses no problem to me.
By the way, if you are more serious
consider a Wine Fridge at home
Reason:
– Buy more when shops or websites offer a good discount and store them for future drinks
– Some bottles need some time to rest before they taste good, I find this happens often with Italian Wine
Excellent video and advice for beginners but also wise words for older hacks as well. Learning about wine can be very intimidating for many people but the most important thing is to simply enjoy it. That in itself is a learning curve but folk should just remember that it's a drink at the end of the day and not an intellectual challenge.
