About us 👫:
We’re Sam and Chris, a wife-and-husband duo who traded our RV life in the U.S. for a new adventure as American expats in Italy. 🌍 🇮🇹
In 2018, we launched our blog, Boozing Abroad, to help travelers find the best local bars, breweries, wineries, and distilleries while exploring new places.
In 2023, we documented our cross-country road trip from Phoenix to Alaska (and back to Virginia!) on this channel.
But in 2024, we started a new chapter as expats living in Italy, diving into Italian culture, everyday life abroad, and the joys (and challenges) of moving to Italy as Americans.
Join us as we explore Italy, uncover hidden gems, and share tips for living abroad, and more. Whether you’re curious about expat life in Italy or looking for travel inspiration, we’re here to share our world with you!

Tip1 – When in Italy you will always be in need for hand sanitizers or sunscreen, makeup, toothpaste etc. "Tigotà" and "acqua e sapone" are cheap shopping stores you are going find everywhere.
Tip 2: free tour and local guides are certified and licensed, you can trust online services like guru walk because they are required by local laws to use just professional guides. Italian are always more than happy to help you discover their cities, if you don't know any local it may be worth trying because (very well) hidden gems are everywhere
Tip3: 911 is 112 in Italy. Stay safe and if you want to use public transportation hide your wallet and documents, please don't feed pickpocketers and scammers, it's avoidable with a little bit of brain and caution
I can totally feel the "Hey, I live here" vibes!
Just a few notes for accuracy:
– Don't bring your water bottle at a bar or restaurant, it's really rude and often not accepted (We also have really strict rules about that)
– Most of the times, in pay-per-use toilets, everything is clean and filled with toilet paper! And, if you find yourself across the Alps (Austria and Germany), often the fee you pay to use the toiled becomes a voucher for the place you are in.
– It's mandatory to program in advance strikes in Italy for all of the public services like transportation, medical and police personnel. You can easily find all the info on the relative website! But the general suggestion to avoid public transportation on those days
– Avoid at all cost wobbly glasses
– Electronic payments are mandatory in Italy but it's customary to avoid them for smaller fees like espresso/water and for government mandated stuff like transport fares, lotteries and cigarettes. But a "I'm sorry, I have to pay with card" will suffice!
Nice video Sam! Well written and full of accurate info!
