(28 Apr 2020) Restaurants, bars and clubs in Italy have united in protest against confusing coronavirus measures implemented by the Italian government post-lockdown.
‘Risorgiamo Italia’ (‘Rise again Italy’), a flash mob promoted by MIO – Movimento Imprese Ospitalità (‘Movement of Hospitality Business’) is protesting against the measures issued by the Italian government to allow the re-opening of restaurants, bars and clubs in Italy.
Dividing customers with plexiglass and plastic screens, rather than social distancing, has caused an uprising of owners and managers of public places: many of them, however are still puzzled with the new measures, as they feel they lack clarity.
“We still feel uncomfortable and abandoned by the government” said Daniele Paolucci, owner of restaurant ‘Osteria delle Coppelle’.
“We don’t understand what will happen and we are worried about the re-opening of our activities,” he added.
For some, this is a job driven by passion, as Veronica Laurenza, owner of restaurant “Il Bacaro” explains.
“We are the sector that works when everyone else is having a good time, is something that we do with a lot of passion, so we need to understand what we can do restart because we do need to restart.”
Thousands of restaurants, bars and clubs adhered to the flash mob and turned on the lights of their restaurants at 9pm local time, a symbolic protest that will be completed tomorrow, when the representatives of restaurant owners and managers will give their restaurant keys to their respective town mayors.
