Here’s our little contribution to celebrate 100 years of Valpolicella’s consortium. Although Italy’s first DOCs were established only in 1966 and the first DOCGs in 1980, consortia came about much earlier. A royal decree of 1924, by King Vittorio Emanuele III, formed the legal basis for consortia for the protection of typical wines, and producers in Valpolicella were ready quickly with theirs the following year.
Our Quintarelli courses also include a short account of the history of the consorzio: https://viti-wine-education.addwisdom.se/katalog/giuseppe-quintarelli.
