We go to the green grocer and two supermarkets in our area outside of Catania. *For more Sicilian experiences join our channel group here:

The prices for food items remain low in Sicily compared to the U.S. and the quality is far higher. We visit Paghi Poco and Eurospin. Everything from produce, eggs, meats, cheeses, canned products, olive oil, coffee and more. The quality of food in Sicily is much better than in the US. No dies, no GMOs, few additives.

  1. You mentioned wine. I drank wine when I was in Sicily almost every day and I never had a problem. I have the wine here and I feel like I’m getting a little acid in my belly.

  2. Where I live: Barilla pesto 4.75€, Muti passata 700g 3.5€!
If I want to make i.e. a "near authentic" Carbonara, I rely on Lidl and their "Italian week" to buy the goods such as Pecorino cheese. As for guanciale, I'm happy to find a decent pancetta.
Gosh, how many times I've said that I'll be moving to Italy!

  3. €91 for cheese (that one huge chunk)? No thanks. Mozzarella di bufala is $10 here for one ball so I rarely buy it. I would eat it more in Italy. Are the vegetables similar in ripeness in the supermarket compared to the green grocer?

  4. Hi Eszter and Alfred. What was the name of the supermarket that you went to? There is such a great selection. The prices are very good. I was just wondering if the fruit and veg vendor is up for grabs lol 😆 as well as his wonderful looking produce . The views are beautiful from your apartment. Have a great week.Thank you. Much love 😊❤

  5. i have noticed that prices have gone up since i was last their 3 years ago or maybe its the season

  6. blueberries for 5 euro compared to what we get in Canada at maybe 3 dollars canadian big diff ..so not everything is a deal in Italy

  7. Guys when are you doing a show that is all about cooking at the Alfred and Esther household. Yes please do a show all about Agrigento. Yes, yes I have suggested that you guys get together with the mayor of Catania and the Tourism Secretary to do a show on the new objectives/initiatives of cleaning up the tons of litter on the highways and byways of Sicily and graffiti all over. That is so mismanage putting asphalt all over the manholes in all the roads, totally mismanaged and with no brains on that head lol, lol, lol. All the best as always. A blessed new week. February is almost here so we are talking groundhog here in the USA then in March St. Patricks where it is not just a great day for the Irish but everyone goes Irish here in the states.

  8. I would love to see you guys do a veal scallopini dish with pasta and then a homemade Sicilian dessert all detailed. A blessed week.

  9. I make my own bread here in America, because our breads are full of hazardous additives! I make my bread with unbleached unbromated flour, these are not allowed in Europe.

  10. Do you live in Trecastagni? I lived there for 3 years on Via S Consoli. Thank you for for allowing me to revisit my memories of such a wonder place and incredible people.

  11. Hello…just to clarify. Discount supermarkets like Eurospin don't carry lesser quality products, but no name brands that are mostly produced in Italy with all the safety rules that are required in this country. The products cost less because they are non commercial made brands. But if you look on the package where they are produced, you'll notice that the names of the manufacturing companies are the same as the big name products. Eurospin can be compared to an Aldi, which you can find in Italy too.😊
