You are looking at life in America from a white collar perspective. Besides Europe hates Americans so why would you want to live with those who look down on us ? No thanks.
America is weird!
Being able to speak and understand basic phrases in another language isn't usually considered being able to speak that language here. For example, I tend to say I speak 2 languages fluently: My native language (Dutch) and English, and I tend to speak a decent amount of German and a bit of French.
However, I can still manage to enter into a decent conversation with someone in French, even though my French is not that good. I could ask for directions, order some food or drinks, and can manage myself pretty decent. If we are talking about understanding basic phrases, I can also understand and speak some basic phrases in Spanish, Portuguese and Italian, and I can kind of understand some sentences in Norwegian, Danish and Swedish, but would not be able to speak it or write them myself.
I think it's mostly because we have been so interconnected for centuries with so many different languages around us, that we've always felt the need to be able to speak the language of our neighbors. But since most media, entertainment, scientific papers, and even most of the internet is all in English, it's become like a second language to nearly everyone worldwide. That's why bilingual people are very rare in the US: Your neighbors have 2 other languages, French and Spanish, and (almost) everyone speaks English. Europe has about 30-40 different national languages…
Number 11: maternity leave.
what you describe is the past. europe under the influence of us statrs to become more like the us,
And now the convicted felon soon to be president brags about taking Greenland with military power if necessary. Wow. How low can USA go ?.
After visiting the U.S. i'm SOO GLAD to live in Europe!
It's so funny- they tell about life in Europe but show people from Africa 🙂
What struck me about the U.S, from my last visit after a number of years, was the almost total takeover by large corporations. NYC which I loved to visit was a real shock, corporate America everywhere, its soul and unique feeling almost completely gone. Unbelievably I even preferred the city in the bad old 70’s (ok I was young and impressionable) because it was a real living pulsating place with loads of independent outlets, unlike now. No more visits I prefer to remember how it was, the good and the bad. 😊
A well-rounded summary of what US bloggers say and experience. On community: absent of suitable spaces and time, it is almost mandatory in the US to join a church. I, a deeply committed European atheist, joined an Episcopalian church so that my wife could meet people. (I was a Ph.D. student at Wharton). So the world view of late Bronze Age scribes lives on. I still cringe at my hypocrisy and the drivel I had to listen to.
Conversely, to a European the US sounds like an absolute hellhole. Why do American citizens allow themselves to be treated in the way they are? It's Orwellian.
I worked for a few years for the UN with a mixture of European and American colleagues. I noticed that the Americans devoted longer hours at work but I didn’t notice that they produced higher quality work than their European colleagues. It was almost as though they felt guilty for spending less than 12 hours at a desk.
Recently i had to visit a dental emergency in Czech republic after like 25 years and i was shocked. I had to pay entire $1.50, outrageous!
America is a ship without a mast wandering aimlessly in a world by themselves.
10:32 talking about studying : "young people can pursue their passions without looming fear of debt" Or is it fear of death ? With schools being considered shooting ranges by some gun crazy Americans.
The USA, where hunting season is always open. With any weapon, for any target.
I have American friends and I love them. But I would not move to the US if I had a gun to my head.
How can anybody brag about a country that has kindergarden shooter drills ffs. The US is a bad joke of a country
Americans realise they've been living in a rip off totalitarian sh!t hole but they still have to pay taxes to usa no matter where you live outside usa they chase you for it ,crazy lot .
As an American expat living in France I find that this is dead on. All 10 points are exactly right.
In Europe people work to live. It’s not the hours it’s the productivity. Yes if you’re sick on holiday you get that time back. There’s paternity leave for fathers. School is free so is some health care. Just to high light some
You talk aboute Europe and you show almost only africans , do you know than in Europe exist white people as well ?
Having lived in Europe on and off for years at a time you left out the high taxes Europeans pay for the benefits you outlined especially low cost medical and education. As for Transportation you left out the relative size of Europe to the U.S. An example is Western Germany which is the size of the State of Oregon. Many Europeans talk about seeing Washington, D.C and then driving to see Disney in Orlando and think it will only be a few short hours. When I tell them no they think I am misleading them and to get them to understand it takes 16 hours to drive East to West or West to East across Texas is completely unfathomable to them. I have now lived in Eastern Europe for 15 years, happy, and have zero intention of ever living in the U.S. The DEI, CRT, Woke Culture, Me Too, Believe All Women, etc. etc are things I will no longer put up with.
UK: "I'm going to use public transport".
USA: " I'm going to go ahead and use public transportation".
Why Americans? Do you think it sounds more impressive? It actually does the opposite.
Hi, I am from germany. Health is the most important thing you can own… we don' t have big houses, the most of us are living in rented little apartements, the people in every region (Bundesländer) are a bit different but we all know: if you have guns, people will shoot and if your hospital costs are too high… maybe people will die because if it. – Fresh food is important to live healthy, but fruits/vegetable could be expansive, too… You will get a bit money to survive, if you are loosing your job, but without jobs your family is poor and can' t buy fresh food every day … Crime you can find, drugs, pickpock, but deadly crime is not often (because in kindergarden and school kids lern to communicate instead of …
… I suppose 8:50 it's a joke… when you try to show language you mean culture then books and… bibles? come on!
To live a save life… is a dream. At daytime it is quite save, but young girls should not be alone outside at night. (Same in every country all over the world?) I can tell you that pickpocket is a real problem since 20 years, now much bigger problem since 2 – 3 years… so transport your money save, not in backpacks. 😅 (was robbed 3 times during the last 30 years… my pocket… without noticing it. – In germany you will find a lot of villages without enough villagers… Try to live in germany for 1 year, I survived it, too. 😃🤣😃(I was born in germany)
Life in the European Union is simply good
11:21 efficiency driven… honestly though? Being worked to failure is not efficient. Studies show that people having the opportunities to have breaks throughout the day, become les mindnumb and perform better than workers who plow on. Maybe Americans have greater productivity, but I doubt it is efficient. Isn’t that the false pride people are indoctrinated with? 'Decent work comes with sacrifice'. But on whose Altar I wonder and at what hidden price or sunk costs.
No one is turned away from an ER in America either, so don’t insinuate otherwise.
Well, Switzerland and health insurance… pickpockets… 😂
Mass immigration is starting to ruin Europe. Crime is way up.
I think that you missed the mark on the topic of higher education. University tuition is less expensive in Europe than it is in the US but this is due to large subsidies and a completely small proportion of the population attends university in Europe.
Great point about the tipping culture in the US, I really don’t miss this.
I am not sure how much of this applies to the UK, compared to continental Europe. But here I would not say that life is without significant stress. We have a serious housing crisis, obscene rents and a cost of living crisis. The NHS is not all it is cracked up to be. If you have complex health problems there is a danger of routinely being misdiagnosed by GPs in a rush, and then just cynically pumped full of medication (I know this from personal experience, although thanks to the NHS I had a life saving operation which probably saved my life, and at no cost – other than general taxation, of course). Of course, I would agree that the NHS is far better than the American system for most citizens, but don't lets glamorise it. Having more employment opportunities and not feeling trapped in a job for years would be very nice, and I can imagine that the harder, but freer American system may suit some people.
Do we need to grant asylum to American immigrants?
Biggest advantage is that you dont have to worry about the orange tosser screwing your life!
Hi, I’m an astronaut, and even from space, I can see how roasted the U.S. just got.
To America's defense. 1) Service in most part of Europe sucks, big time. They all must go to the USA to learn what the real service is. 2) Toilets: small, smelly and way too less than necessary. 3) Roads: not bad, but overall worse than in the USA. In Germany they closed a busy highway between Hamburg and Hanover, two large cities. You approaches an exit and see the sign STOP. That's it. And NO detour signs! Thanks God locals helped us. We have detour signs even if some very minor road is closed! At least were I live in New England. 4) Safety? Depends very much on where you are. And the last but not least: Europe is very weak and will soon find themselves under the fists of Mordor (Russia) and Islamists. They won't even fight: they lack courage, spirit and arms.
I must disagree with the statement that fast-food in Europe is higher quality.
