Join me, Suzi Perez, Vinmaps founder and map maker for some wine tasting, featuring a highly tannic varietal by nature met with the artisanal, high standard of winemaking of Tenute Lunelli’s Vittorio Stringari, winemaker at Tenuta Castelbuono.
During the video I share a little bit about the wine producer, as well as a few highlights of Umbria, one of Italy’s most bucolic wine regions, and of course I taste the 2018 Carapace Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG red wine.
Our focus for today, Tenute Lunelli’s Tenuta Castelbuono, is located in Bevagna in Central Italy’s landlocked region of Umbria. Tenuta Castelbuono is one of Tenute Lunelli’s 3 wine estates. The other two are Tenuta Podernovo in Tuscany, and Villa Margon in Trentino.
Umbria borders Tuscany, Lazio and Marche and is often referred to as the Green Heart of Italy with its untouched, old world environment.

Having recently discovered and becoming a big fan of the Sagrantino grape I enjoyed your review! So much so that I am thinking a trip to Umbria needs to be in our upcoming travel plans. We live near the Sonoita (AZ) AVA and there is a winery there ( Autumn Sage) who has the most acres of Sagrantino grapes planted in the US and they do a respectable selection of wines. I finally had my beautiful Vinmaps Italy poster framed and mounted in my office, my X-mas gift to myself😇!
