Patsy’s Pizzeria, now a local pizza chain in NYC, originated in East Harlem, where the original location still stands today! Since 1933, the original Patsy’s Pizzeria location has been serving up coal-fired pizzas and is part of the old guard of original old-school coal-fired New York pizza shops. It’s in company with other iconic old-school NYC pizzerias, such as Lombardi’s the oldest pizzeria in the USA, and John’s of Bleecker Street.

Back then, all pizzas were coal-fired pizzas in NYC. After around the 1940s or 50s though, the trend began to shift towards gas-powered and even electric ovens, as coal was considered bad for the environment and most restaurants did not want to put up with all the rules and regulations for running a coal-fired oven. Because of that, coal-fired ovens are becoming few and far in-between, and most of the coal-fired pizza spots are the original iconic spots!

Back then, Harlem was very much an Italian American community, so Patsy’s was opened back then as one of the original pizzerias in New York City. While the demographics of Harlem have changed today, Patsy’s still stands! That says a lot if you ask me about the food, so I figured I’d make the trek to 125th street and give it a shot!

  1. I've never been up here, even having lived in NYC for 14 years, nor have I been to RAOs. That pizza looked ok, I personally don't like when they skimp out on the sauce. I always had great meals
at John's of Bleecker St., been going there since the later 80s or so, and also Patsy Grimaldi's in Brooklyn on Fulton St. (whatever it's called now). John's of Bleecker was always my fave
though. I haven't been there now since about 10 years ago. Di Fara's I haven't been to either, though I'd read a lot of reviews that claimed it was not worth the long wait times. I never
went to The Bronx for much of anything, so I can't comment on the various joints there, including all the Fordham and Belmont places.

  2. Great Job UA, Wishing you and your family a very happy New Year. Looking forward to more reviews in 2025!

  3. Of the NYC OGs, this is my favorite spot, because their hardly ever is any line at the to-go side, and the cost has barely budged over the last several years. Also, I've never had any problems finding parking in the area!

  4. Wearing an Eagles hat in a NYC restaurant is a sure way to make sure your food is fucked with, but at least you have hand sanitizer.

  5. I haven't been to patsys in a while. Most people go Next door to the pizza shop and order pies to go or eat in the car.

  6. I've eaten there MANY times when I lived in Harlem. The Pizza is OKAY honestly. The Pasta's are much better to eat there.

  7. So happy I stumbled upon this channel a couple years ago. Goes to all the right spots people are curious about trying. I tell everyone I know to watch you. If he makes this face 😣then you immediately know the food is great.

  8. I hate cash only places!! Everything is $15.00 and higher and if I come there with my family, I’ve got to have $150.00 or more in cash to pay my bill with tip, ridiculous.

  9. That was Frank Sinatra's favorite pizza. He even mentioned the address before singing a song on stage in the 1980's.

  10. I love Patsy’s in Harlem tho I do have to say Ive never eaten at the dining room. We’ve always grabbed slices at the takeout window next door.
