Living most of the year outdoors, in Italy, in the sunshine, is a dream. The lifestyle of owning and renvovating a property in Italy is why so many, like me, do these things. I reflect on a great year as I prepare to lock up the house for the winter. My first year on YouTube has gone better and has been more fun than I could have ever expected.

Covering the steep banks to stop erosion take me quite some time. I certainly get my exercise and step count in easily while working in my garden ( field ). A neighbour checks if my olive trees are ready for harvesting and I get over 30 plants in the ground as I clear head high brambles with my strimmer.

For those interested in what my neighbour said to me – he talked about the trees needing to be pruned and that he thinks that they have been affected by a bugs. He offered to help me (with my field) but said that his tractor is broken.

A big thank you to all the other channels that I watch and have been inspired by that are based around being in Italy, doing a DIY house renovation, and the lifestyle of this wonderful country. Thank you all. @RaisingVoyagers @NickiPositano @KylieFlavell @storiesfromthecascina @OurItalianDreamHouse @ateliermavi @MartijnDoolaard @italianproperty @stuartandpaul and of course Joseph and Kobe @housemarche

Thanks all.
Richard. 🍷

  1. Thank you for sharing your journey with us! I’ve watched your videos and have become so curious to see what’s next—I can’t wait to see the finished project one day! Watching your work has definitely taught me what I could and couldn’t manage on my own, just that is priceless. I know there’s so much to do while you’re there, but I’ve also really enjoyed the bike trips and visits to town you’ve shared. Wishing you all the very best in the new year!

  2. Your paradise is becoming more and more amazing! All the hard work truly pays off when you go back from where you started. Wishing you a safe and Happy New Year and have a bless time in England with family and friends. Looking forward to seeing what becomes of your paradise in 2025. Cindy🇺🇸

  3. Congrats on all of the work you've done, everything you've accomplished, and your experiences over the past year. And thank you for taking me (and all of us) on this journey with you! Happy holidays, Richard.

  4. The old neighbour literally says (as far as you can hear because his voice is low): the olive is small and also sick, the worm has fucked it. The plant needs to be pruned.

  5. Nice to see Joseph and Kobe helping out. Hoping it all holds for you while you make your plans. Happy new year to you!

  6. It has been so great following you and this project this past year, Rich. I have huge admiration for everything you're doing there. Can't wait to see what 2025 holds!

  7. You need to spray your olives with copper its called rame in italian. Prune the olives then spray them. In spring time spray them just before they flower.

  8. Really beautiful to see the seasons slowly change. Great progress 👍👍🙏🇬🇧

  9. Maybe you could put your mind at ease with a webcam on the property. Or maybe that'll make it worse.😅 Could potentially add some good filler footage too

  10. I have been enjoying your videos, as a fellow Mancunian looking for a home in Italy, it has been easy to relate. I have also taken on board some of your early advice and have started looking for a geometra as opposed to relying on agents and web searches.

Sadly I don't possess your enthusiasm for driving so our search revolves more around areas with flights from Manchester.

I look forward to your adventures continuing next year.

  11. he says the tree is a little sick, the wind did it, it needs pruning, he says his tractor is broken but it would be a good time to work the soil, That small tree he says should be taken down, with an excavator.

  12. It has been fun to watch through the year ,😁 you have done a great job and next year will only be better 🙋🏻‍♀️🎉👍

  13. Its funny Richard, I suddenly discovered I have a vested interest in your 3 acres. When I saw the weed mat going down I was relieved?? Geez its not my 3 acres but hey, job well done 🤨 Weird isn't it. lol, anyway have a happy new year and all the very best for 25. From New Zealand.

  14. As I said before: a GREAT GREAT job man! Wonderful to see you to live your dream. Myself looking the web for a similar dream, but haven't found it yet, or maybe I'm nervous to just do it.

  15. Fanatic last video of the year. As we're finding, you just start making progress and then you need to leave. The joys of living in two different countries, eh!! We're back in the UK until March now as we need to gain some of our 180 days back. Will you be able to get out there over the winter at all? We have our fingers crossed that the landscaping fabric will stay put 🤞🤞🤞

  16. That's a shame about your olive tree 😢 I hope all your hard work covering the banks will stay in place. All your hard work clearing the drive, etc is made a big difference. Happy New Year to you & your family 🎉🍾🥂

  17. So great to see your progress! And your comfort level in front of the camera as well. Love your little house & best wishes for 2025. ❤
PS-if available 12" staples are best for windy areas, don't pop out as easily. 😊

  18. PS–sounds like your old olive trees are infected/diseased via your wise old neighbor. You may want to call your garden center to find out about treating them as whatever it is will likely infect your new trees. Happy gardens 🤪

  19. See you next year. You’ve got so much done the property looks great. Fingers crossed the ground covering will keep in place it looks well protected. 🎉

  20. I love watching all you share with us about how you are creating your dream house. Your work and effort and attitude are a great inspiration. Best wishes to you for a happy healthy and successful new year. 💕

  21. You thought about getting a web cam so you can check on land when not there?

    Happy Mew Year !

  22. Amazing – You are moving right along and by yourself, which is very impressive! FYI, we order our pins on Amazon in a box of 560 which are thicker and longer pins…much cheaper than the local store. We lay the ground fabric down on an other section of our property each year until we can afford ground cover. It takes approximately 1 pin every meter to keep the wind from carrying it away – we live in a very windy area. If weeds start growing under the fabric, we spray the fabric with vinegar, salt & water mixture in a large garden sprayer which kills the weeds naturally. Love your channel…keep it up!

  23. From experience and losing many plants, try not to plant too deep – keep the trees just a bit up out of the ground. Build a small mote around the base about 1/2 meter out. Don't forget the mulch inside the mote around the trees. Happy planting and love your dream come true!

  24. Well Richard, I think you did an amazing job so far. I guess the damp weather/rain will keep the cloth more to the ground and it shouldn't be too bad in spring. Finger crossed? Happy new year mate ♥
