We have a couple of these restaurant in UK prisons. I went to one called The Clink in Brixton prison 2 months ago. The food was amazing and the inmates serving and cooking were delightful.
Crazy how there are all these successful ways to rehabilitate inmates yet the US prison system chooses to just look at the rest of the worlds successes and think we’re doing it better lmao
The plus side of this is:
1) the inmates have a,sense of purpose;
2) they have skills that can be used to get work when they leave prison
3) there's less chance of re-offending once released because of the first two points. Its a win-win scenario.
Now this programme needs to be extended to include other trades such as carpentry, bricklaying etc. The country needs skilled workers so this is one place to start. However there does need to be some kind of monitoring so that they don't fall into the same old ways as before
