Chef Boyardee, originally Ettore Boiardi (1897–1985), was an Italian-American chef and entrepreneur who became a household name in the U.S. Born in Piacenza, Italy, he immigrated to America in 1914 and quickly made a name for himself as a chef. Boiardi’s culinary skills led to the opening of his own restaurant in Cleveland, where he began offering his pasta dishes in takeaway containers. His food became so popular that he started packaging it for sale, eventually launching the Chef Boyardee brand in the 1920s.

The brand, which originally offered high-quality Italian recipes, later became known for canned pasta products like spaghetti and meatballs, ravioli, and lasagna. Boiardi’s easy-to-make meals were particularly popular during World War II, as they were used in military rations, helping establish the brand as a staple in American households. Chef Boyardee products remain a part of American grocery store shelves today, long after Boiardi’s death in 1985
