During a bout of heavy rain and wind, a rogue wave crashed through the glass exterior of a resort restaurant in Arenzano, Italy.
Surveillance footage from the restaurant’s security camera shows restaurant employees attempting to support the glass before a wave several meters high hits. The restaurant’s doors immediately caved and the rushing water swept the employees across the dining room. When reached by phone, Giovonna Damonte, the proprietor at Bagni Maddalena, confirmed she was hospitalized with lacerations from the shattered glass.
An Italian regional meteorological agency warned that winds reached 150 kilometers per hour and waves as tall as six meters were recorded.
