It’s home to dog-eating Haitian migrants – at least that’s what Donald Trump says about the Ohio town of Springfield.

Speaking during the US presidential debate this week, the former president told millions of TV viewers that Haitian migrants were killing and cooking pet dogs and cats.

US correspondent Mark Stone went to find out whether there was any truth to Trump’s claim, and examine the real issues facing the town.

  1. I'm in North Carolina, and last week we were complaining about Haitians eating pets. This week, with all the stores closed, We're asking Haitians for recipes.😂😂😂

  2. Yes. No one is saying..each and every Haitian. MEDIA IS SAYING THAT. Some are into voodoo. Yes. some do, do this.

  3. Did a large sum of those 15 thousand Haitians get caught, charged or arrested to put this rumor on such a national level or is this a baseless rumor with everyone opinion at the forefront.

  4. If animal sacrifice were part of a Vodou ritual in Springfield, Ohio, it would only draw police or city council attention if it involved legal issues, such as public health or animal welfare laws. In the United States, the Supreme Court case Church of the Lukumi Babalu Aye v. City of Hialeah (1993) established that animal sacrifice, when performed as part of a religious ritual, is protected under the First Amendment, provided it complies with local laws concerning animal cruelty, waste disposal, and public health.

However, if a ritual sacrifice occurs privately, it is unlikely to come to the attention of authorities unless there are complaints or violations of local ordinances. For instance, in some municipalities, improper disposal of animal remains could lead to an investigation. In short, authorities generally do not monitor or document such practices unless they are associated with complaints, disturbances, or violations of local laws.

  5. A common practice ALL AROUND THE WORLD. grow up and maybe see what is beyond your rose-colored glasses.

  6. Animal sacrifices are often favored at annual feasts that an oungan or manbo organizes for their congregation.[176] Species used for sacrifice include chickens, goats, and bulls, with pigs often favored for Petwo lwa.[326] The animal may be washed, dressed in the color of the specific lwa, and marked with food or water.[327] Often, the animal's throat will be cut and the blood collected in a calabash.[328] Chickens are often killed by the pulling off of their heads; their limbs may be broken beforehand.[329] In the case of Agwé, a lwa of the sea, a white sheep may be sailed out to Trois Ilets and thrown overboard as a sacrifice.[330]

Once killed, the animal may be butchered and organs removed, sometimes cooked (wikipedia on haitian voodoo)

  7. My big issue about that, this is not about they are emigrants, but they are black. I don't understand at each Olympic games, I see American black athletes with gold medals for this country, but the target is always black. This is weird because if I meet American, they don't care if their colleagues are black, they don't act differently with a racism American black colleague or not.

  8. They eat them in Haiti. It's a culture. They have been taking the geese out of the park there's a non emergency police call where the guy is reporting them taking the geese. They are leaving pig carcasses out and taking livestock nearby and eating it.

  9. Haitians do practice Voodoo and it includes the sacrifice of animals, concluding with the animals being eaten. Do your research look up Voodoo religion.

  10. They are not just eating dogs and cats, but also ate four calling birds, three French hens, two turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree. However, the six geese and the seven swans managed to escape, but unfortunately they were eaten by sharks.

  11. Eating cats, to Haitians, especially on a weekend, is as normal to THEM as eating Turkey is to us on Thanksgiving. They can buy them at stores in Haiti too. So this isn’t far fetched AT ALL.

  12. Wisconsin dairy farmer says under Biden-Harris, "We've been [eaten] alive by inflation."

  13. I'm sure some desperate people have eaten stray pets before, but this idea that it's some big epidemic and that it's only immigrants that would do it is just stupid.
